For the Regulating Cows going on the Comon, and better pro- viding of Bulls to go with them -
It is ordered ---
That whosover Shall keep any Cow or Cows going at large within the Neck of Boston Shall pay into the hands of Such Person or Persons as the Selectmen Shall from time to time appoint to Receive the Same, the Sum of five Shillings and Six pence Per Annum for each Cow to be Imployed as follows (Vizt)
[444.] Three Shillings ther of towards providing four Bulls to go at Large on the Comon from the first of Aprill to the first of Novem following Yearly and every Year, And two Bulls to go on the Comon (or as the Said Selectmen Shal order) from the first

of November to the first of aprill following yearly and every year, Two Shillings more thereof for paying the Cowkceper, and the Remaining Six pence for paying the Person that Shall be ap- pointed by the Selcetmen to give forth Certificats to the owner of cach Cow, showing that they haue paid the Said fiue Shillings and Six pence per head for each Cow.
And any Cow that Shall be found going on the Comnon as afore- said whose owner Shal not haue a Certificate as aforesaid Shall be by the Cowkeper (or other person appointed by the Selectmen for that and) Impounded, and the owner Shall pay three Shillings Per head to the Impounder before the Cow or Cows be discharged and the Said Cow or Cows Shall not be suffred to go on the Comon untill the owner haue paid the Said five Shillings & Six pence, and gained a Certificate as aforesaid.
And it is further ordered
That if any person or Persons Shall have any milch Cow or Cows which they keep in their Pasturs or Inclosurs, and do not Suffer them to go at large on the Comon, they Shal pay only two Shillings towards the Bulls.
For Preventing dry Cattle going on the Comon
It is also Ordered
That no ox Steer Horse Sheep or Goat, Shall be Suffered to go at large on the Comon or in the Streets within the neck of Boston (Except Such as are under the Care of Some Person and driving to Markett) on penalty that the owner therof Shall forfeit & pay the Sum of five Shillings for every ox Steer Horse Sheep or Goat that Shall be found going at Large as Aforesaid.

Voted A Grant of Two Thousand & four Hundred pounds be raised on the Inhabitants & Estates within this Town, for Relcif of the Poor, defraying the Charge of the Watch, Paving and other necessary Charges a Riseing within and for the Said Town for the year Ensuing.
Voted that it be left with the Selectmen to buy what Grain they find needfull out of the Money appropriated for that Use -

Propose as follows (Viz)
Whereas the Town Laws or Orders already made haue by Ex- perince proved Ineffectual for the through elensing and keeping clean the Streets, Lanes Alleys and Other Publick Places within the Town of Boston.
To Prevent the Same Inconveniency for the future.
Proposed -
That the Scavengers for the time being and Such as hereafter Shall be Chosen there unto Are hereby Authorised as often as they shall see Needfull to warn and order all & Every Person within their Respective Ward or Wards who are or Shall be the Occupiers of any Houses Lands or Tenements Abutting on any of the Paved Streets, Lanes, Alleys, and other Publick places within the Town of Boston, To Rake and Sweep all their Dirt and Trash together in Heaps, Lying or being in the Streets Lanes Alleys or other Publick places &c in Such maner and Proportian as the Scavenger or Scavengers Shall order and direct. And that where there is any Dirt or Trash in any of the unpaved Streets Lanes Alleys or other publick places which doth or may Anoy the Paved Ways. That the Abuttars Rake the Same together to be left or taken away at the Deseresion of the Scavengers.
That where there is any Dirt or Trash that lyes by or before the Houses Lands or Tenements of any Unable and Indegent Person or Persons, or any Houses Lands or Tenements unoceu- picd, or any Extraordinary wide Strects or Perticuler Places that will be a Hardship for Abutters to Rake up in Heaps morc then before their Own Doors, that the Scavenger or Scavengers at their Discresion get the Over plus Dirt Raked & Swept together at the Town Charg.
That if any of the Occupiers of Such Houses Lands or Tene- ments Shall Refuse or Neglect to Rake and Sweep together in Heaps Such Dirt & Trash as lyes by or before their Respective Houses Lands or Tenements in the spase of Twenty four hours after Warning given by the Scavenger, Shall forfeit and pay the

Sum of five Shillings for Every Such Neglect : And Treble the Cost the Scavengers Shall be at in doing the Same.
[447.] That when the Dirt and Trash is Raked & Swept to- gether the Scavengers haue full Power & Authority (if nccd bc) to Impress any Cart or Carte" belonging to the Town of Boston To Cart & Carry away the Dirt & Trash out of the Streets, Lanes Alleys, and other Publick places within the Town of Boston, to the next convenient place or apartment within the Said Town with all Expeditian where the Scavenger or Scavengers Shall Order and Direct. And to be paid for the Same as the Scavenger and Carter can agree, not Exceeding fifteen pence for Such Sufficient cart load as Shall be to the Satisfaction of the Scavenger : And upon the Carters Refusing or Neglecting (after Twenty four hours warn- ing from the Scavenger) to Cart or Carry away the dirt & Trash Raked together in Heaps, or not fully to Load his Cart to forfeit and pay the Sum of fifteen Shillings for Every Such Neglect -
That the Single Evidence of any one of the Scavengers Shall be Sufficient to Convict any Person or Persons of the Breach of this Order, as well as any other Lawfull Evidences, And that Each & Every one of the Scavengers haue as much Power in any of the Eight wards as well as to that unto which he is Chosen. And is Likewise Desired and Ordered to Prosecute the Town orders and By Laws for Preventing Nusances or Annoyances within the Said Town - And the Selectmen are Directed & Impowred to Order, payment out of the Town Treasury for Such Sums of Money as Shall by an Accot. Appear to the Satisfaction of the Selectmen as the Respective Scavengers Shall Expend, for Carrying away the Dirt & Trash out of the Streets Lanes Alleys &c within the Town of Boston .-

Voted That Thomas Palmer, William Clark. The Lease wherof will Expire in November next. to Receive and Im- prove them for the benefit of the Town, to appoint Sutable Persons in behalf of the Town to Apprize the Same and to Draw upon the Town Treasurer for the payment of the apprized value, Out of the Money appropriated to be laid out in a Real Estate, and to make a Report how that affair is to the Gen" Meeting in March next.

Voted Whereas the Town at their Meeting in March last did Chuse a Comitte for the Purehasing of Grain for the use of the Town, and also ordered that the Seleet men Should make Draughts on the Treasurer for payment of Such Sum or Sums of money as the Said Comitte from time to time Shall purchas Grain for, out of the apropriated money for that Service, but no provision mnade Impowering the Comitte to provide at the Town Charge Store- houses wherein to Lodge the Said Grain or to Sell the Said Grain when it may be proper, nor where to Lodge the money ariseing thereby, nor any power to pay the necessary Charge of Houseing the Said Grain, And the manner of Drawing for payment being found Inconvenient.
It is therefore Ordered That the Town Treasurer pay Such Sums as the Said Comitte Shall Draw on him, for any of the Ends aforesaid, not Exceeding Eleven hundred pounds in the Whole, Including what Grain is already in the Grainery purchased by the Said Comitte, Pursuant to a General Order of the Select men to the Treasurer to answar Such Dranghts of the Comitte, which order the Select men are hereby Directed to make on the Treas- urer [456.] And Charge the Same to Aceompt of Grain, Also that the Comitte be Impowered to Sell the Said Grain at Such times and at Such prizes as they Shall. thinke most for the Towns Advant- age, and best answar the End & Desigue of the Town in Erecting the Grainery ; And pay the money ariseing by the Sale of the Said Grain into the Hands of the Town Treasurer and by Him to be Carryed to the Credit of the Acco" of Grain.
Upon a Representation That m' Josias Sanders late of Boston Deceª Constable for the year last past has a considerable part of the Rates to him Comitted, that are not yet Collected and their may be Reason for further abatements.
Voted that the Assessors for the year last past are Impowr'd to make Reasonable abatements upon the Said Sanders List, for the Spase of (not Exceeding) three months to what was before granted.

The Town being Served with the Copy of a Petition of the Rep- resentatives of Eleven Towns belonging to this County of Suffolk, Praying that all the Country Towns within the Said County may be Sett off from the Town of Boston, and made a Seperate County, for Reasons therein mentioned. The Said Inhabitants being Legally met and Considering that the time Set for Our Answaring the Said Petition is So Short that it is not possible for the Inhabi- tans throuly to weigh the Convenieney and Ineonvenyeneys that may acerue to them thereby.
And the Subject matter of the Said Petition being of very great Moment and Importance to this Town.
Voted that the Great and General Court be Humbly Addressed. That their further proceeding thereon may be Referred [457.] unto the fall Sessions. That So the Inhabitants of Boston may haue a Reasonable time to Consider thereof and to make answar thereto.
