MAC DOUGAL, Daniel Trembly :


Botanist; born near Liberty, Ind., Mch. 16, 1865; received his education at that place and at DePauw and Purdue Univer- sites; subsequently studied at the Uni- versity of Leipsic and Tübingen, Ger- many. These institutions have con- ferred various degrees upon him, includ- ing that of Ph.D., received from Purdue University in 1897 in recognition of his researches upon the movements of plants. He was an instructor in Purdue University from 1890 to 1893, when he was elected a member of the faculty of the University of Minnesota; held a po- sition as a member of the department of botany in that institution until 1899, his duties being chiefly concerned with lec- tures on the physiology of plants, upon which subject his investigations have been chiefly conducted. During the last twelve years he has conducted explora- tions in various parts of North America for the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and for the N. Y.
