He then entered the of- fice of S. C. Wells, manufacturer of patent medicines, and remained there until 1892. Between 1892 and 1897 was with Geo. H. Wells & Co., in the same line. He mar- ried in 1882, and has one daughter Mar- jorie; has been active in politics since 1887 and has been a member of the Repub- lican County Committee of Genesee county most of the time since that date. In 1898 was elected Justice of the Peace, which of- fice he still holds; is a director in the Le Roy National Bank; nominated for the Assembly in 1901. Speaker Nixon at the beginning of 1902, appointed Mr. Hooker a member of the following Assembly Com- mittees : Affairs of Villages, Public Edu- cation, and Agriculture; renominated in 1902. HOTCHKISS, William H .:


Lawyer; born Whitehall, N. Y., 1864; was graduated from Hamilton College in 1886; having been admitted to the Bar in 1888, he practiced at Auburn, N. Y., until 1890, when he removed to Buffalo; in 1897 he prepared a monogram on primary election laws, which led to a movement for better primary laws in New York; he drafted the primary election law of 1899; was appointed referee in bankruptcy for the Buffalo (N. Y.) district in July, 1898; in July, 1899, he was chosen chairman of the executive committee of the National Association of Referees in Bankruptcy, and, as such, made an investigation into the operation of the law, which resulted in an elaborate report; he contributed an article on Bankruptcy Laws to the Re- view in November, 1898.
