Wyllys Silliman, from a special committee, made a report on the subject of luter communication between the states and territory lying west of OFie, and the eastern sea ports, and expressed the opinion that at some future day there would be a great line of travel and traffic between the east and the states of Indiinn, Illinois and le- yond, either through the vallies of the Miami ( Maumee) and the Wabash, from Lake Erie, or through Lakes St. Clair, Huron and Michigan. He advocated the plan il establishing it along the first named line.

Mr. Blackburn, from a joint committee, submitted a memorial to Congres, ask ing that all militia rangers, minute men and volunteers of every descripties in the Revolutionary war, and the officers and soldiers of the subsequent Indian wars and the war of 1812, be suitably pensioned for their service .. The Judiciary Committee was instructed to inquire into the propriety of requir- ing lottery brokers to take out license for selling tickets.


A memorial was submitted by the Society of Friends praying for the repeal or modification of the "Black Laws" of 1807, and the amendments thereto. The Judi- ciary Committee reported that it was "inexpedient 10 repeal the laws now in force."


A special committee, to whom was referred a portion of the Governor's message relating to hemp culture, reported an elaborate bill for its encouragement. The re- port was not acted on.


A memorial adopted by the House. favoring the colonization of blacks in Canada, was indefinitely postponed by the Senate.

Complaint had been lodged with the Legislature that the clerk af Capire county had usurped some of the powers of his office and abused others, acting de agent and attorney for litigants in the court of which he I clerk; issuing marrage licenses, performing the marriage ceremony and making returns, purchiding bank in his own name, and as ngent of the plaintiff. et males under esstations loved by himself, and other similar acts. The Judiciary Committee reported that the chairk .a. responsible to the court appointing him, and not to the Leguistore.


The method of keeping the monies of the State by Treasurer Browe was |siedl- gated by the House and found to be satisfactory in the main.


An attempt was made to impeach Jeremiah H. Hallock, President Judge of Use Fifth Circuit, but after hearing the' charges, supported by affidavite, the Judydary Committee, through its chairman, Thomas Corwin, reported that Judge Hallenk rus not censurable.
