For Speaker, Thos. A. Cowgill received 68 votes, and S. S. Bloom received 45.
For Speaker pro tem., J. A. Williamson received 68 votes, and James A. Estill, 44. For Clerk, D. J. Edwards, 68 votes ; Lewis A. Brunner, 45.
George W. Copelin was elected Journal Clerk and Charles Wheeler, Message Clerk, and the record does not disclose the remaining Clerks, nor are they indexed in the Journal.
For Sergeant. at - Arms, J. W. A. Gillespie received 68 votes, and Allen Beach, 45.
G. W. Andrews was elected First, Abram Moore, Second and Fredrick Blenkner, Third Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, the latter receiving a unanimous election, as was the case in all of his elections with a single exception.
On the thirteenth of January, 18So the two Houses voted separately for United States Senator, and on the next day met in joint convention. The result was :
