William Trevitt served as Secretary of State at different periods-in 1840-1S41 and IS52-1856, the only incumbent who served in the capacity under both Constitu- tions.
Wm. H. Harrison, after serving as Secretary of State, served in the Legislature, in Congress, in the United States Senate, and became President. William Willing Byrd was Governor of the Northwest Territory. Wm. Creighton, Jr., Jeremiah Mc- Lene. John Sloane, Samuel Galloway, Isaac R. Sherwood and James S. Robinson were members of Congress.
Daniel J. Ryan resigned April 15, 1892, to become Managing Director of the Ohio Commissioners for the World's Fair, and Christian L. Poorman was appointed to the vacancy.

Isaac Welsh died in office in 1875, and was succeeded by Leroy Welsh.
The oldest legislative employe is Third Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms Frederick Blenkner, who has been constantly employed, except when doing military duty in the Civil war, since 1850, nearly all of which time he has had charge of the two Leg- islative chambers during recess, fitting and preparing them for the sessions.
