14 .Judge Williams was elected in October, 1869, for fifteen years.
15 In drawing lots, Judge Paxson drew the seniority.
16 Judge Sterrett was appointed in the place of Williams, deceased, and was afterward elected Nov. 5, 1878. Judge Williams died Feb. 19, 1877.
17 Judge Green was appointed by the Governor to fill the vacancy cre- nted by tho death of Judge Warren J. Woodward, on Sept. 5, 1879, aged sixty years, and on Nov. 2, 1x80, was elected to serve for fifteen years.
18 The court commissioned Judge Findlny as " Standing Auditor and Master in Chancery," and on July 25, 1861, Garrick Mullery was ap. pointed " Master and Examiner in Equity," in the place of Joel Jones, decrased. I could not find the date of the lattur's appointment on the minutes.
1º The Historical Society of Pennsylvania linve the MIS. minutes of the County Court of Philadelphia, in Patrick Robinson's handwriting. I identify them as of that court by the case of Rambo, 1 C. R, 106. For Pat Robinson's troubles, etc., ses 1 C. R., 86, 87, 89, 90, 94, 95, 101, 108, 144, and 145,
20 David Lloyd was commissioned on the 2dl of the 8th month, 1686 (seo 1 C. R., 145), in place of l'at Robinson, dismissed.
21 Robert Assheton was appointed, Oct. 25, 1701, town clerk, clerk of the peace and clerk of the court, or courte, by William Penn. Seo " City Charter," 2 Proud, Appendix, Part 1, p. 45. On Sept. 15, 1726, he said he had been clerk and prothonotary of Philadelphia for about twenty-six years. llo died June 5, 1727. It is very probable that the above ap- pointment by Penn carried with it the clerkship of the Supreme Court of the province At nil events he was certainly in office us clerk of the Supreme Court June 6, 1709. 2 C. R., 474.
" Edward Shippen, Jr., was in office, and signs himself as prothono- tary, Sept. 24, 1765. See 4 " P'a. Archives," 243. The was in office before Nov. 1, 1762. 9 C. R., 5.
23 Died March 3, 1822, aged sixty-three.
"+ By the Act of April 14, 1831, for the purpose of holding the Supreme Court, the commonwealth was divided luto four districts, denominated the Easteru, Westorn, Northern, and Middle Districts, and a prothono- tary or clork appointed in each district. I have no records of any other district than the Eastern. By tho minutes of the Middle District, Wal- lace De Witt was the prothonotary in office May 2, 1864. Robert Snod- grass, appointed Muy 1, 1871, and William Pearson, Jan. 11, 1882.

actor, Mr. Cooper, and abandoned his position to take part with his native State when she attempted to secede from the Union, in 1861.
1 Moore declined at first, but afterward accepted. He was appointed in the first place attorney-general for the king; I C. R., 519, and after- ward by Peun. 1 " Logan Papera," 60.
2 In Futhey & Cope's "Ilistory of Chester County," and 9 " Pa. Ar- chives," 631 (2d series), the following are given as attorneys-generel uf the province to 1717: " Oct. 25, 1683, John White; Jan. 16, 1685, Sapmel Hersent (commission revoked) ; Nov. 17, 1685, John White (special), April 24, 1686, David Lloyd ; May 19, 1868, John Moore ; 1700, William Assheton ; 1701, Par Parmyter ; April 5, 1705, George Lowther; June 24, 1708, Thomas Clarke; 1710, Robert Quarry ; March 5, 1717, Honry Wilson." William Assheton, 1700, died September, 1723, aged thirty- three yenra. lle was judge of the Vice Admiralty then. He was born abont 1680, and it must have been his father, Rubert Assheton, who was if at all, only for a brief period, attorney-general in 1700. I am afraid thet the error as to Williem Assheton baa its origin in my " History of Chester," 472, and I can recall no authority for its insertion there. "In the year 1700, Junies Logan speaks of David Lloyd as the then attorney- general," 1 " Watson'a Annals," 521. John Moore was attorney-general Dec. 19, 1700; 2 C. R., 11.
3 Par Parmyter was l'enti's cousin, and appointed before this date, but does not seem to have remained long in the province, ae Moore waangain in office in 1703. See "Logan Papers," 1 vol. 38, 66, 113, 196, and 314. See " State Papers," 4 vol., " Memoirs of the Historical Society," p. 333.
4 In 9 " Pennsylvania Archives" (2d series), p. 631, Henry Wilson is given as commissioned attorney-general on March 5, 1717, to succeed Thomas Clarke. Previously this attorney-generul's name had been fur- niahed me as Thomas Wilson, and as being from the Records of Com- missione at Harrisburg. Not being able to discover that any Inwyer of either name lived in the province at the period indicated, I asked the secretary of internal affairs to examine the Records of Commissions. Ile replied by his deputy, April 5, 1881, " We have made a very thorough search, not only through the records of this department, but also through those of the secretary of state, and are unable to find that ' Henry Wil- aon' or ' Thomas Wilson' ware attorneys-general at nny period." In the " Catalogue of the Alumni of the University of Pennsylvania," Thomas Kittera, a gratunte of 1805, is noticed as attorney-general of Pennsyl- vanln. If he ever held the office the Record of Commissions at Harris- burg would have shown It.
