I derived a large amount of information from her and have often regretted - did not see her sooner and oftener than I did. With her and a few other aged persons in this town a great amount of personal history has been either wholly lost or made extremely difficult to obtain in any other way. (John Caldwell of Ipswich, in 1654, m. Sarah Dillingham, of Ipswich, and had a son John, who m. Sarah Foster, and had a son Jacob, who m. Rebecca Lull, and had a son Jacob, who went to Waterton, there m. Anna Eastings, and had a son, as follows; ) the following was the 4th chil, and 2nd son.

He was a Tanner, His tannery and tan-pits were situated a little E. of ( 77) Both o.b.c. and she was bapt.2 July 1809. He was Constable and Collector, 1809-'17. Selectman, 1814-15-19-20-22-26-27. and Tonn Treasurer, 1825-26-27. She d. 4 Dec.1814. 32. (%) The same day her mother d. One stone marks their graves, on which is the following inscription, viz .:

(5) JACOB CALDWELL JR.


(Son of 4) b.26 July 1805. grad. Har. Coll. 1828, and was for several years a successful teacher in Framingham and Fitchburg. He then studied Divinity, and has been the preacher of the Unitarian Societies in Calais, He. and in this town. He lived in this town, on the homestead at ( 79) which he solo 28 Mar.1867. he was school Committee 1851, '2, '4,'5. It was mainly through his exertions that the Public Library was established in this town, and he has always felt a great interest in its welfare. He m. in Stow, Mary Ann Patch b.in Stow. She d. in framingham, 14 Apr.1836. 25. One son. He m. (2d) in Marietta, Ga. Apr.1870. Sarah Hastings a half-sister of his Ist wife. They live, in winter, in Marietta, Ga. and in summer with his son George, in Ithaca, N.Y. One son, viz:


1. George Chapman, b. in framingham, 14 Aug.1834. grad at the Lawrence Scientific School, at vambridge, - pursued his studies in Germany for 5 years; was Professor of chemistry, at Anticch College, Ohio; - during a part of the Civil War, he was connected with the u.S. Sanitary Commission, and in 1868, he was appointed Professor of Agricultural Chemistry, in Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. He m. in Yellow Springs, Ohio, 25 Aug. 1861. Rebecca C. Wilmarth, of Yellow springs, Ohio. They are now, 1874, living in Ithaca, N.Y. Chil. viz:
