(Son of 48) b. 16 Apr.1786, m. 28 June 1812 (T.F) Hannah Billings (172 B) b. 31 Jan.1790. "e once told me that at one time 4 families in the district where his Father lived, No. 3, sent 40 scholars to the district school; now, there are but 7 in che whole district. He had in his possession an old Bible, which he claimed was the Bible of the Martyr, John Rogers, burnt at the stake in the year 1555 and that he had held it in his hand while suffer- ing at the stake. This Book came into Mr. Carter's possession through his Grandmother-his mother's mother-who was a Rogers and claimed to be a lineal descendant of the martyr. Hon. James pavage, seems to prove quite conclusively that the book was not printed till 1561 or 6 years after the martyrdom of John Rogers ( See N. E. Gen . Dic . Vol . 3 Pas 566) but however that may be, the book is a great curiosity printed in old blackletter, without punctuation, not divided into chaoter or verse, &c. and Mr. Varter thoroughly believed that he said about it. They lived ina house west of (223) where he d. 25 Feb. 1863. 76-10-9. (N) She i's now 1874 living. They had no children.

(105) HENRY ALBERT CUSHING CHOATE

(San of 103) b. 9 Oct.1832 when about 18 years of age, in 1850, went to Poston with his entire worldly possessions tied up in a handkerchief and walking into the city from Cambridge to save the cost of riding. He was employed after he had been in Boston some time by an apothecary under the Revere House in Dowdoin Square at $250. a year, working every day, Sundays included, from daylight to Il or 12 o'clock p.m. and sleeping in the store. Everybody liked him; and by the closest attention to business and the most rigid economy he at length bought out his employer. He has gone on step by step enlarging his business purchasing other establish- ments of the same kind always busy always pleasant and always pros- perous until he is now probably the richest man ever born in Lunenburg. He drops the "Cushing" in writing his name. He m. in Dorchester 25 Nov.1857 Frances Linscott b. in Dorchester dau. of wingate and Eliza (Stanley ) Linscost. Chil .:

(107) PAUL CROCKER CHUTE b. m. 5 Aug.1792 (Z.A) Cynthia Dodze (122 D) . (There was some relationship or connection between these Chutes and vapt. Paul Crocker (215 3) which I cannot explain and after frequent inquires there is still something of a mystery about the matter which has perplexed me not a little. On our records "Capt. Paul Crocker and wife and the following chil." are warned in 1791. It then enumerates them as follows: "Mary, Anna Crocker Chute, George Washington Crocker Chute. Paul crocker Chute" vapt. Paul Crocker bad a daughter Many as will be seen. I have thought that possi ly he, Paul Crocker took the name. of chute but he had not done so at the time of his 2d marriage in 1796, 5 years after the warning. I cannot solve the mystery) He'd. was lost at sea. (116) ROBERT CLARK

(Son of 115) b. m. 31 July 1738 (D.S) Mrs. Kary Reed They lived in a house which stood very near the spot that Martin Johnson's house nov stands upon Clark's Hill at (119) The tradition is and doubtless it is true that clark's Hill was so named by or for him. He was a man of a better education than was common at that time and was an elegant penmen. But there was something about him that was not right; either he was a Spendthrift or he had acquired bad habits, for vapt. Jonathan Willard was his Guardian in 1748 and he declining to act longer in the capacity, in 1752 the town appointed Samuel Reed his guardian.
