He was one of the "Minutemen" and was in the army, for a few months. He was Delectman 1763-4-5-7. He d. 10 Mar.1815, 63-8-22 (S) She d. in Lancaster at the house of her son Right Cummings. Chil. :

variously written Kerningham, Kimmingham, Kindcam, Kinnecum, Kunnecum, Coyngham, Coyneham, Cunninghame, &c. The signifi- cation of the name is Cummings Home, or rar. (I have nover ascer- tained satisfactorily, where the first ancestor of those of the name in this town came to this country. William Cunningham aged 21 embarked at Gravesend, England, 28 May 1635 in the "Speedwel:" bound for Virginia. If he was the ancestor I cannot as ye: trace his descendants to New England. The family is of Scottish descent. Andrew Cunningham of Boston in 1680 m. Sarah Their fifth child and 3d son was William, who was b. in Boston 17 Nov. 1694. there m. Elizabeth "heeler and their 2d child and son ras James b. in Boston 24 Apr.1721, who m. Elizabeth Boylston. Her sister Susanna Boylston m. John Adams and was the Mother of President John Adams. Another Sister Ann Boylston, m. Ebenezer Adams, a brother of John and was the Mother of Rev. Zaodiel Adams (11 A) The oldest child of James and Elizabeth (Boylston) Cunningham, was as follows) William Cunningham b. in Boston 22 bapt 27 Feb. 1743, m. in Boston, 4 Dec. 1766 Abigail fellows b. in Charleston 1745. dau of Gustavus Fellows a merchant of Boston, gd-dau. of Capt. Jonathan and Eliza- beth (Norwood) Fellows, gt-gd-dau. of Joseph and gt-st-gd-dau. of William Fellows, who came from England in 1635, in the "Planter" and settled in Ipswich.
He was in business for over 20 years at No. 9 Newbury St., Boston; was commissioned by the Royal Governor hutchinson 3 Apr. 1772 as a Lieutenant of "His Majesty's Troop of horse in the town of Boston, and Province of Massachusetts Bay". He was a Selectman of the ton of Boston in 1786-7, and a vote of thanks to hin for his faithful services, was passed"at a meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants in publick Town Meeting asseroled at ranueil Hall,

In 1789 he purchased of Stephen Gorham (139 G) his farm in this town, and very soon removed here. They lived at (11) the house having been moved to the other side of the road, and several rods S.W. In the N. end of the house, he kept a store (11) and he had some potash works on the opposite side of the street. He was Selectman, 1793, and '99 , Town Clerk 1798 to 1808 inclusive, was a Justice of the Peace and a Trial "ustice "for small causes" He d. Sunday at 11 P.M. 5 May 1816. 73-2-13 (S) Ins. on g-s: "Prudence and Industry, Sobriety and Temperance, Fidelity and Uprightness were the principles which guided hir: in Life and gave him peace in Death "
