b. son of Daniel. He was for several years in the U.S. Army in which he enlisted as a private, and was promoted to Sergeant, 2d and Ist Lieut. and Brevet Captain in the 11 Regt. Infantry, U.S.A. He was wounded and retired on his brevet rank. In the fall of 1868, he bought the "Ramsdell" place on Flat Hill ( 145) where he now 1874 lives. He m. 2. He d. L'ec. 29, 1869, 56-8. A brother Marcus M. Davis, P.t. 1869 with his wife, and 2 chil. lived with him about a year. He was a Captain in a Mass. Regt. Frank

exceedingly eloquent orator and his power over a jury has seldom been equalled. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives of the U.S. Senate. was the 3d Secretary of the U. S. Treasury and in 1800 was Secretary of War. For a sketch of his life, see New England Biography P. 146 etc. They lived for a time in the house north of the Methodist Church (29) He d. quite suddenly at the hotel in Athens, N.Y. while on a visit to his son who then resided there 4 May 1816. 59-11-20. A marble monument with a suitable inscription upon it is still standing in the cemetery & Athens but in 1860 his remains were removed to Mount Auburn Cemetery near Boston and a fine monument erected to his memory. He, Nicholas, came to this town in 1742; P.t.1743 to '49; taxed on all 1750 N .; was chosen Surveyor of Staves 1750, He m. 20 July 1748 (T.P) Mary Hastings ( 117 H) 6. 6 July 1731. In 1852 or '3 they removed to westminister she being dis. to the church there 22 June 1755. He was for a long period among the prominent and influential men of Westminister holding the first cvil offices and being the principal magistrate of the town. Ee was a Colonel in the Militia and was in the service for a short time during the
