Rufus Putnam's regt .; while at West Point, he was struck by lightning, fr. the effects of which he never fully recovered; in 1782 he rem. fr. Franklin to Shutesbury, and to Dfd. in 1786; his autograph in 1802 shows him to be a good penman; d. Dec. 9, 1839. He m. 1776, Rachel Hayden, a mulatto; she d. bef. 1820.
