AASAHEL, S. of Judah (3), b. 1721; sett. in Wapping: selectman 5 yrs .; ordained deacon Dec. 26, 1760; he was a plain man with plain habits; it is told, as characteristic of the man, that he left directions to have no brass nails on his coffin, and that flax strings should be used in place of the usual iron handles. Brass headed nails were commonly used on the coffin lid to mark the initials and age of the occupant; he went to an extreme far less offensive to good taste than the funeral display often dictated by vanity or fashion in our day; he d.
