C. 1795); studied law, and practiced in partnership with the distin- guished jurist and patriot, Judge Theodore Sedgwick, abt. 20 yrs., in the Courts of Berkshire. While pleading a case abt. 1803, the pre- siding judge charged him with making a misstatement and ordered him to sit down. The indignant lawyer replied: "I will not sit down, but I will leave this bar forever," which he did, and came back to Dfd .; lived on No. 15. He was the first reporter for the Supreme Court and pub. the first volume; was rep., State senator, councilor and Presidential elector 1812; d. Dec. 27, 1835; he was always known as "Uncle Bob."
