I think drawing should be a pleasant subject always. The classes should be happy classes or something is wrong. The happier a child is while he is doing a problem, the more likely he is to get something out of the experience which will be of later use. We do not expect to make artists out of all the pupils any more, just because they take drawing lessons, but we do expect them to acquire power to appreciate beauty in things around them and to like drawing well enough to use it as a natural means of expression.
Correlation with the other school work and outside activi- ties is necessary. Whenever possible, time should be given for notebook illustrations needed for other subjects, or for decorat- ing the schoolrooms when special occasions arise, or for making posters for school or town events. A drawing course which does not do this, does not realize its possibilities. By careful planning, these extras can be arranged so that the children Jose none of the usual practice with pencils, crayons, paints, and other mediums.
In spite of the crowded conditions here, and the difficulties under which we work, I feel that the natural alertness of the general type of children here has partly made up for the lack
139
of regular training in this subject. They have already shown more progress than I expected and will respond even better from now on.
I wish to thank the teachers for their co-operation since I have been here, especially in the matter of bulletins. Children are always more interested and do better work, when the teachers take the trouble to put the results up where they can see them. All the Medfield teachers have been unusually helpful in this matter.
The interest and valuable suggestions which you, as Superin- tendent, have given this branch of the work have been of great help. I thank you for your consideration.
Very sincerely, EVELYN H. JUDD, Supervisor of Drawing.

REPORT OF THE INSPECTOR OF ANIMALS
January 1, 1927.
To the Selectmen of Medfield:
I hereby submit to you the report of my work for the past year.
In January I received orders from the Director of the Di- vision of Animal Industry, State House, Boston, to make a complete inspection of all cattle, sheep, swine and goats kept in this town, also the conditions of the stables in which they were kept.
During this inspection I visited thirty-eight stables, in which were kept 306 cattle, 289 swine, 4 sheep and 2 goats. The animals and stables were found to be kept in very good con- dition with a few exceptions.
On January 16, 1926, a bull arrived from outside the state, and after examining him and the necessary test papers, he was released from quarantine.
On March 29, 1926, a horse arrived from outside the state, and after examining it and the necessary papers, it was re- leased from quarantine.
On December 16, 1926, my attention was called to a dog which appeared to have the rabies. The dog was killed and the head examined by the proper authorities, but did not prove to have rabies as could be ascertained at the end of the year.
Respectfully submitted,
GEORGE S. CHENEY, Inspector of Animals.

REPORT OF THE INSPECTOR OF SLAUGHTERING AND PROVISIONS
Mr. Joseph W. Curtis inspected 166 hogs which were slaugh- tered, all of which passed; also 23 cattle which were slaughtered, of which 21 passed and 2 cattle condemned as tubercular. He also made several inspections of grocery stores, meat markets and meat carts doing business in this town and found the pro- visions to be of good quality.
Medfield, Mass., January 1, 1927.
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen,
Gentlemen:
On December 14, 1926 I was appointed to this office to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Joseph W. Curtis. I inspected 44 hogs which were slaughtered and all were passed. Yours respectfully,
BENJAMIN N. WARD,
Inspector of Slaughtering and Provisions.
