It was greatly regretted by the Committee that the flagpole showed a decided twist and lean. Ample time was given the McGann Co. to correct this, if possible. After several months the flagpole was inspected by experts, which proved that the pole was not acceptable. The McGann Co. immediately took the pole down and replaced it with another which was accepted by the Committee on January 18, 1930.

ANNUAL MEETING
March 4, 1929
Pursuant to a Warrant issued by the Selectmen, the inhabi- tants of the Town of Medfield, duly warned and notified in the manner prescribed by law, met at the Town Hall on the fourth day of March, 1929, at six o'clock in the forenoon; and the following action was taken upon the several articles in the Warrant :-
Article 1. To choose all Town Officers required to be elected annually by ballot; to wit:
One Moderator, One Town Clerk, One Treasurer, One Col- lector of Taxes, Three Constables, One Tree Warden, One School Committee, all for one year; One Selectman, One As- sessor, One School Committee, Two Trustees of the Public Library, One Member of the Board of Health, One Cemetery Commissioner, One Member of the Water and Sewerage Board, all for three years; One Member of the Planning Board for five years.
The polls were opened at 6.15 a. m. and closed at 2 p. m.
Cards of Instruction and Specimen Ballots were posted as required by law.
The ballot box was examined and found in good working order and at close of voting agreed with the check lists in the number of ballots cast.
The following named persons appointed by the Selectmen and sworn by the Town Clerk were assigned to duty as follows: Charles L. Bullard and Mary E. Bridge to distribute ballots; Wesley A. Gove and Harry S. Mason to check at ballot box; Frederick Laverty, Elmer E. Walton, Marie M. Burke, and Walter E. Gardner, Tellers; Constable Coleman J. Hogan in charge of ballot box.
The ballots were counted in open meeting and the total vote cast was 147.

Voted, that the Selectmen be authorized to choose Fence Viewers, Field Drivers and Pound Keeper.

Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to accept the reports of the several Town Officers for the past year.
Voted, that the reports of the several Town Officers be ac- cepted in entirety if there is no objection.
Article 4. To hear and act on the report of any Committee, to choose any Committee the Town may think proper and transact any other business that may legally come before the Town.
The Committee authorized to negotiate the sale of the Lowell Mason School, reported that they had sold the property to Mrs. Byng for the sum of $900.00.
Voted, that the report be accepted.
Article 5. To appropriate and raise such sums of money as may be necessary to defray the expenses of the Town for the ensuing year.

Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to increase the salary of the Chairman of the Board of Assessors to $300.00, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Voted, that the salary of the Chairman of the Board of As- sessors be increased to $300.00.
Voted, that the sum of $700.00 be raised and appropriated for the Assessor's Department.
Voted, that the appropriation for the Highway Department be taken up after Article 29.
Article 6. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the municipal year, and issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of the present municipal year.
Voted, that the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of taxes of the municipal year beginning January 1, 1929, and to issue note or notes therefor payable within one year, any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the taxes of said municipal year. (Unani- mous.)
Article 7. To determine in what manner the taxes shall be collected for the ensuing year, also determine what percentage shall be allowed the Collector for the ensuing year.
Voted, that taxes shall be paid not later than the 15th day of October of each year, and on all taxes remaining unpaid after the first day of November interest shall be paid at the rate of six per cent per annum from the 15th day of October until such taxes are paid, and that the Collector receive one per cent on all taxes collected by him.
Article 8. To see what compensation the Town will allow members of the Fire Department for the ensuing year.
Voted, that the members of the Fire Department be paid the sum of twelve dollars per year and one dollar per hour while working at fires.

Article 9. To see if the Town will authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.
Voted, that the Collector be instructed to use all means and processes provided by law for the collection of all taxes remain- ing unpaid after the first day of December, 1929.
Article 10. To see how much per hour the Town will allow for work on the highways for the ensuing year.
Voted, that the price for labor per hour, on the Highways be left to the discretion of the Selectmen.
Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Boards that have during the year of 1928 appointed one of their members to another town office or position to continue this practise to May 1, 1929, as authorized by Chapter 371 of the Acts of 1928.
Voted, should pass.
Article 11A. To see if the Town will vote to authorize a Town Board to appoint any member thereof to another Town office or position for the term provided by law, if any, other- wise for a term not exceeding one year, as authorized by Chapter 36 of the Acts of 1929.
Voted, should pass.
Article 11B. To see what salaries the Town will allow various appointees as authorized by Chapter 36, or do or act anything relating thereto.

Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $10.17 to defray the cost of repairs on beacon made in 1928, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Voted, that the sum of $10.17 be raised and appropriated to defray the cost of repairs on the beacon.
Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $42.00 for the purchase of chairs for the

first grade, made in 1928, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Voted, that the sum of $42.00 be raised and appropriated for the purchase of the chairs.
Article 14. To see if the Town will authorize the Selectmen to employ a permanent clerk to serve under their direction, and raise and appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 for salary, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Voted, that the Selectmen be authorized to employ a per- manent clerk, and the sum of $1,000.00 be raised and ap- propriated for the salary of said clerk.
Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $2,500.00 for repairs on the Ralph Wheelock School, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
Voted, that the sum of $2,500.00 be raised and appropriated for repairs on the Ralph Wheelock School.

Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to rescind its vote of May 28, 1928, namely: That the Town accept the sum of $100.00 as a perpetual trust fund for the care of the Cyrus J. Cook lot in Vine Lake Cemetery, the interest thereof or so much as may be necessary to be used for said care.
Voted, that the Town rescind its vote of May 28, 1928.
Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treasurer to return to the donor the sum of $100.00 and such accrued interest, if any, as has not been expended.
Voted, should pass.
Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $1,145.00 and transfer the sum of $355.00 from the "Sale of Cemetery Lots Fund" for the maintenance of Vine Lake Cemetery, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 20. To see if the Town will accept the following named sums as perpetual trust funds for the care of lots in

Vine Lake Cemetery, the interest thereof, or as may be necessary to be used for the said care, viz .:
For care of Joseph Bullard lot $100.00
For care of Edward Blackington lot 100.00
Voted, that the sums be accepted in usual form.
Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to discontinue Forest Street from High to Granite Streets as a Town Way, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to install four ad- ditional electric lights on Pine Street, and raise and appropriate any sum of money therefor, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)
Voted, that the Article be dismissed.
Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $350.00 to scarify and tarvia Vinald Road, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)
Voted, that the sum of $350.00 be raised and appropriated to scarify and tarvia Vinald Road.
Article 24. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $1,450.00 for the purpose of resurfacing and applying tarvia to Pleasant Street from Oak to South Streets, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)
Voted, that the sum of $870.00 be raised and appropriated for the purpose of resurfacing and applying tarvia to Pleasant Street from Oak to South Streets.
Article 25. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $2,100.00 to resurface and tarvia Brook Street, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)
Vóted, that the sum of $2,100.00 be raised and appropriated to resurface and tarvia Brook Street.
Article 26. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of resurfacing and applying

Article 28. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $750.00 for the purpose of resurfacing Foundry Street with gravel, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)

Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $3,000.00 for the purpose of resurfacing Nebo Street with gravel, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Petition.)
