STATE PRIMARIES SEPTEMBER 16, 1952


Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the meeting was open- ed at 8:00 A.M. and after reading the warrant the polls were declared open. The ballot box had been examined and found in good working order, instructions to voters and specimen ballots were posted as required by law. The following persons were sworn in and assigned to their duties as follows:


Mary Mair Etienne and Alice Ripley distributing ballots, Helen Kennedy, Aurora Flaherty, John Guiney, Beatrice Bangs, Margaret Kennedy, Eileen McCarthy, William Owens, John Sullivan, Edward Sweeney as Tellers and Laura Atherton and Frank D. Kennedy checking at the ballot box. Nicholas Gug- liotta and Arnold Ripley were in charge of the ballot box.


The ballots were counted in open meeting and the polls declared closed at 8:00 P.M.


The total vote cast was 1024. Republican 941, Democratic 83.

By virtue of this warrant, I have notified and warned the inhabitants of the Town of Medfield, qualified to vote in elec- tions, to meet at the time and for the purpose named, by post- ing attested copies of said warrant in not less than five public places in the Town at least seven days before the time of holding the meeting.

November 4, 1952


Pursuant to the foregoing warrant a meeting was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday, the 4th day of November, 1952 at 6:30 A.M. The following persons were appointed election offi- cers, sworn in by the Town Clerk and assigned to their duties as follows: Mary Mair Etienne and Alice Ripley to distribute ballots; Tellers were Helen Kennedy, Mildred Lombard, Frank Kennedy, John Sullivan, Margaret Kennedy, Eileen McCarthy. Mary Poli, Helen Mckeown, Beatrice Bangs, Laura Atherton William Owens, John Guiney; checking at the ballot box were Anne Young and Edward Sweeney with Nicholas Gugliotta in charge of the ballot box.


The ballots were delivered to the ballot clerks, the ballot box was examined and found in good order and the warden upon reading the warrant declared the polls open at 6:30 A.M. Cards of instructions and sample ballots were posted as required by law.


The polls were closed at 8:00 P.M. and after counting the ballots in open meeting the results of the complete tabulation were announced as follows:


The total vote cast was 1741, of which 1643 were cast in person, 72 by civilian absentee ballot and 26 by War absentee ballot. This was a turnout of approximately 90% of the 1940 registered voters.

In the name of the Commonwealth you are directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Medfield, qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet at the High School Auditorium on Thursday the 20th day of November A.D. 1952 at 7:30 P.M. then and there to act on the following articles:


Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money from the Road Machinery Fund to the Highway Operating Account to defray expenses of the operation and maintenance of Highway Machinery.


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from available funds in the treasury a sum of money to de- fray the costs of damages awarded by the County Commis- sioners in the taking of land for the relocation of Main Street.


Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Meade Avenue, com mencing at Lowell Mason Road and extending in a southwest- erly direction for a distance of approximately 200 feet, as laid out by the Selectmen as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's Office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and ease- ments on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish said purpose, and appropriate from available funds in the Treasury a sum of money for the purchase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construction and improvement of the same, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Linden Court beginning at a point in the westerly side of a private way known as Linden Street and extending in a westerly direction for an approxi- mate distance of 450 feet as laid out by the Selectmen as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefore to accomplish said purpose, and appropri- ate from available funds in the Treasury a sum of money for the purchase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construc- tion and improvement of the same, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 7. To see if the Town will vote to accept as Town Ways, private roads known as Linden Street and Millbrook Road commencing at Main Street and extending in a southerly direction for an approximate distance of 1570 feet, thence turn- ing and running in a general westerly direction for an approx- imate of 1390 feet as laid out by the Selectmen as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; au- thorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or other- wise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish said purpose, and appropriate from available funds in the Terasury a sum of money for the purchase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construc- tion and improvement of the same, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to accept as part of a public way that portion of South Street and Curve Street, which runs along Curve Street in a northeasterly direction for a distance of about 360 feet; thence turning northerly on a radius of about 212.90 feet and running in a northerly direction along South Street for a distance of 194 feet as relocated by the Selectmen and shown on a plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necesary to accomplish said relocation, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to approriate from available funds in the Treasury a sum of money to defray the cost of damages to be awarded by the Board of Selectmen for the taking of land for the relocation of a portion of South Street and Curve Street.


Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from available funds in the Treasury a sum of money to defray the costs of relocating a portion of South and Curve Streets.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or transfer from available funds or to borrow a sum of money for the purchase and installation of an exten- sion of a six-inch water main in Harding Street from its present termination about 527 feet in a northerly direction, or do or act anything in relation thereto. Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to re-name that portion of Frairy Street from the intersection of Frairy Street and Dale Street to its intersection with Bridge Street as Dale Street, so that Dale Street will be named from North Street to Bridge Street in its entirety as Dale Street, or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.


Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to amend the Zon- ing By-Law of Medfield as shown on the Zoning Map of Med- field, Massachusetts, revised April 30, 1951, on file with the Town Clerk, by removing the after described premises from "B" Residence District Uses and by placing said premises un- der Business District Uses:


A Certain parcel of land situated both on and off the northeasterly side of Frairy Street and bounded and described as follows:

Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the meeting was called to order by the Town Clerk due to the absence of the Town Moderator. Motions were entertained for the nomination of a Moderator Pro tem and after such action, Joseph S. Kennedy

was voted to fill said office. Due to the lengthy wording and detail of the articles in the warrant they were read and acted on individually as follows:


Article 1. Voted to transfer the sum of $1,800.00 from the Road Machinery Fund to the Highway Operating Account to defray expenses of the operation and maintenance of High- way Machinery.


Article 2. Voted unanimously to appropriate the sum of $50.00 from the unexpended balance of an appropriation voted under Article 48 of the Annual Town Meeting of March 14, 1949 to defray the costs of damages awarded by the County Commissioners in the taking of land for the re-location of Main Street.


Article 3. Voted unanimously to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Meade Avenue, commencing at Lowell Mason Road and extending in a southwesterly direction for a distance of approximately 200 feet, as laid out by the Select- men as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish said purpose and to appropriate the sum of $667.50 from the unexpended bal- ance of an appropriation voted under Article 4 of the Special Town Meeting of February 9, 1950 for the purchase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construction and improvement of the same.


Article 4. Voted unanimously to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Castle Avenue, commencing at Lowell Mason Road and extending in a Southwesterly direction for a distance of approximately 395 feet, as laid out by the Select- men as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish said purpose and to appropriate the sum of $880.25 from the unexpended balance of an appropriation voted under Article 4 of the Special Town Meeting of February 9, 1950 for the purchase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construction and improvement of the same.

Voted unanimously to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Remsen Avenue, commencing at Lowell Mason Road and extending in a northeasterly direction for a distance of approximately 532.50 feet and thence turn- ing and running in a southeasterly direction for a distance of approximately 272.50 feet to the point where it joins Johns Avenue as laid out by the Selectmen and shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; authorize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary

therefor to accomplish said purpose, and appropriate the sum of $1450.00 of which $16.00 is to be taken from the unexpended balance of an appropriation voted under Article 48 of the Annual Town Meeting of March 14, 1949 and $1434.00 from the unexpended balance of an appropriation voted under Article 4 of the Special Town Meeting of February 9, 1950 for the pur- chase or taking thereof, and to provide for the construction and improvement of the same.


Article 6. Voted unanimously to accept as a Town Way a private road known as Linden Court, beginning at a point in the westerly side of a private way known as Linden Street and extending in a westerly direction for an approximate distance of 450 feet as laid out by the Selectmen as shown on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's office; author- ize the Selectmen to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish aid purpose.


Article 7. Voted unanimously to accept as Town Ways, private roads known as Linden Street and Millbrook Road. commencing at Main Street and extending in a southerly direc- tion for an approximate distance of 1570 feet, thence turning and running in a general westerly direction on the plan and layout on file in the Town Clerk's' office; authorize the Select- men to acquire by eminent domain or otherwise, such rights, titles and easements on such land as is necessary therefor to accomplish said purpose.
