Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1954, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year, in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 17, General Laws.


Article 7. To determine in what manner the taxes shall be collected for the ensuing year; also to determine what percent- age shall be allowed the Collector for the ensuing year.


Article 8. To see if the Town will authorize the Collector to use all means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.


Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to appoint one of its members as Clerk of the High- way Department, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 10. To see what compensation the Town will allow the Clerk of the Highway Department, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money from the Road Machinery Fund to the Highway Operating Account to defray the expense of the operation and maintenance of Highway Machinery.


Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the improvement of Chapter 90 Roads, said money to be used in conjunction with any money allotted by the State or County or both for this purpose, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the construction of a section of High Street, said money to be used in conjunction with any money allotted by the County or State, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the repair of Brastow's Bridge to be used in conjunction with an equal sum appropriated by the Town of Millis and allotments made by the County of Norfolk and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (DPW), or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to defray the cost of making a drain- age engineering survey of Frairy Street and vicinity, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of installing a drain- age system and necessary appurtenances in Frairy Street and vicinity and the payment of any eminent domain damages in- curred in connection therewith, or do or act anything in re- lation thereto.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of a truck and plow for the Highway Department, and to finance the foregoing purchase, raise a portion of said money by taxation and author- ize the Town Treasurer to borrow the balance with the approval of the Selectmen, and issue notes to be paid in not more than five years from the date of issue and to authorize the sale or trade of a truck as part of the purchase price, or to transfer the same to another Town Department, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to dispose of by sale, miscellaneous, unusable and obsolete Highway materials and equipment, or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.

Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the repair of Millbrook Road, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of making certain repairs to the Town offices, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the of $400.00 for the purpose of taking the State Decennial Census in the year 1955 as required by Chapter 9, Section 7, of the General Laws, (Ter. Ed.) and amendments thereto.


Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install one (1) electric light on pole No. 56, Main Street, the cost of installation to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting under Article 4.


Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition Boston Edison Company to install one (1) pole and street light on Janes Avenue, the cost of installation to be taken from the appropriation from Street Lighting under Article 4.


Article 24 To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of improving a por- tion of the vacant lot owned by the Town of Medfield which is located on the southerly side of Dale Street opposite the Med- field High School as a parking lot, and to authorize the Board of Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install necessary lights, poles or both, or do or act anything in re- lation thereto.


Article 25. To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen in behalf of the Town of Medfield to enter into an agreement with the Commissioner of Mental Health of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the purpose of having the Fire Alarm System and Civil Defense System installed at and sounded from the Medfield State Hospital.


Article 26. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of installing the Fire Alarm System and the Civil Defense System at the Med- field State Hospital, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 27. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of reconstructing the sidewalk and resetting the curbing where necessary from in front of 489 Main street and running easterly for approxi- mately 117' to North Street and thence turning and running northerly for approximately 152' along North Street on the westerly side, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 28. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to reconstruct the sidewalk on the southerly side of Main Street in front of St. Edward's Church and Rectory for a distance of approximately 95', or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to reconstruct the sidewalk along the northerly side of Dale Street in front of the schools for an approximate distance of 450', or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 30. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $68.79 in payment to Richard W. Breck, Jr. for expenses incurred in the years 1951, 1952 and 1953 in con- nection with his duties as Civil Defense Director, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 31. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to convert as a temporary honor roll for the veterans of the Korean Conflict, the present tempor- ary honor roll for the veterans of World War II which is located at the Town Hall, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 32. To see if the Town will vote to discontinue and abandon as unnecessary for public use a Town way on the northwesterly side of West Mill Street adjoining and run- ning parallel to the property of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company and which is more fully described as follows:


S. 43°-32'-35" E. a distance of 183.09 feet to West Mill Street and thence turning and running northerly for a distance of approximately 82.50 feet and thence turn- ing and running northwesterly for a distance of ap- proximately 157.50 feet and thence turning and run- ning southerly a distance of approximately 56.18 feet to the point of beginning, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 33. To see what compensation the Town will allow the members of the Fire Department for the ensuing year.


Article 34. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purchase of a truck chassis for Forest Fire use, or do or act in relation thereto.


Article 35. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the building of a tank and the mounting and piping of the same on a truck chassis for Forest Fire use, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 36. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $800.00 for Vocational Tuition and Trans- portation.

Article 37. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $153.00 for retirement under the provi- sions of Chapter 708, Acts of 1941, of teachers entering Military Service.


Article 38. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $1,100.00 for a School Dental Clinic to be administered under the supervision of the Board of Health, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 39. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Moderator to appoint a committee which shall act in conjunc- tion with the School Committee for the purpose of studying the feasibility and cost of the installation of an amplifying sound sysem in the High School Auditorium, or to augment the present system and to make recommendations at a future Town Meeting, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 40. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $594.58 from the Dog Tax Return to the Library, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 41. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from the Treasury to the Library, the sum of $307.77, the same being the amount of fines collected by the Library during the year 1953, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 42. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $4,200.00 for maintenance of Vine Lake Cemetery and transfer the sum of $460.00 from the Sale of Cemetery Lots Fund for the purpose of developing the new part of the Cemetery, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 43. To hear and act on the report of the Ceme- tery Commissioners authorized under Article 11. of the Special Town Meeting of June 29, 1953, to inquire into the feasibility of acquiring additional land for the purpose of developing the Vine Lake Cemetery.


Article 44. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or borrow a sum of money for the purpose of acquir- ing additional burial land adjacent to Vine Lake Cemetery and authorize the Cemetery Commissioners to purchase the same for said purposes, and/or to authorize the Board of Selectmen to proceed in accordance with Chapter 114, Section 11, General Laws (Ter. Ed.) for the acquiring of the same, or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.


Article 45. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of defraying the cost of laying out lots in the new part of the Cemetery, or do or act. anything in relation thereto.


Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to build a hard top tennis court adjacent to the public schools, such sum of money to be added to that already appropriated for this purpose in the past years, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 47. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the removal of silt and dirt from Baker's Pond to facilitate the flow of water and to improve the health conditions adjacent to the pond, or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.


Article 48. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money and to use the unexpended balance of $202.22 from the Police Car purchase account voted under Article 44 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1952 for the pur- chase of a 1955 automobile for the Police Department and authorize the sale or trade of the present car as part of the purchase price, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 49. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Water and Sewerage Board to appoint one of its members as Water Superintendent, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 50. To see what compensation the Town will allow the Water Superintendent for the ensuing year.


Article 51. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money in addition to the appropriation previously voted under Article 17 of the Special Town Meeting held June 29, 1953, for the purpose of extending the public sewer in West Main Street from the corner of Park Street to the premises of Alfred Colantonio, and to meet said appropriation by the trans- fer of said sum of money from the unexpended balance of the appropriation voted under Article 3 of the Special Town Meet- ing held on October 30, 1950, for the sewer extension in Adams Street, or do or act anything in relation thereto. (Water and Sewerage Board).


Article 52. to see if the Town will vote to appoint a com- mittee of five (5) members and authorize it to make arrange- ments and to spend money appropriated under Article 4 for the observance of Memorial Day.


Article 53. To see if the Town will vote to hold fitting dedicatory services of the World War II Honor Roll and the Memorial School on Memorial Day, 1954, and to appoint a com- mittee to act in conjunction with the Memorial Day Committee for the purpose of making arrangements for said service, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 54. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to provide suitable quarters for the Beckwith Post No. 110, American Legion, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 9, General Laws (Ter. Ed.) and amendments thereto.


Article 55. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the original placing and replacing markers in Vine Lake Cemetery on the graves of veterans of the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War I and World War II, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 56. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the hire of an ambulance for Town use, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 57. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purchase of leasing or rent- ing an open bathing beach, equip it with requisite fixtures and conveniences and provide protection in swimming, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 58. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of One Hundred ($100.00) dollars as com- pensation to Philip W. Leeds for land damages in the matter of the relocation of South, Spring and High Streets, in settle- ment of suit brought against the County of Norfolk by Su- perior Court petition No. 48968, together with the further sum of Thirty-five ($35.00) dollars incurred as expenses of said suit, said sum amounting in the whole to One Hundred and thirty- five ($135.00) dollars, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 59. To hear and act on the report of the Fire Station Land Committee appointed under Article 34 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1953 to inquire into the advisability of purchasing a piece of land for a Fire Station.


Article 60. To see if the Town will vote to provide that the committee appointed under Article 34 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1953, with two additional members to be appointed by the Moderator be designated a Fire Station Building Com- mittee with full authority for employing a competent person or persons for the sole purpose of drawing plans, specifica- tions and estimated costs for building a Fire Station, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 61. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to be expended under the direction of the Fire Station Building Committee for plans, specifica- tions and estimated costs, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 62. To hear and act on the report of the Swim- ming Pool Committee appointed under Article 52 of the An- nual Town Meeting of 1953.


Article 63. To hear and act on the report of the War Memorial Committee appointed under Article 27 of the Annual Town Meeting of 1953.


Article 64. To hear and act on the report of any special committee appointed at any previous Special Town Meeting or Annual Town Meeting or appointed by the Moderator or Select- men as authorized by the vote of the Town.


Article 65. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install one (1) street light on pole No. 49/25 on Philip Street,

and one (1) street light on pole No. 22 on Philip Street, the cost of installation to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting under Article 4. (Petition).


Article 66. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install one (1) street light on pole No. 16 which is located on Adams Street, and the cost of installation to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting under Aricle 4. (Petition).


Article 67. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Selectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install street lights on poles No. 64/2, No. 64/5 and No. 64/7 which are located on Johns Avenue and poles No. 66/1 and No. 66/3 which are located on Castle Avenue, the cost of installa- tion to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting under Article 4. (Petition).


Article 68. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Assessors to use a sum of money from free cash in the Treasury for the reduction of the 1954 Tax Rate, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 69. To see if the Town will vote to accept the fol- lowing named sums as Perpetual Trust Funds for the care of lots in the Vine Lake Cemetery, the interest thereof or as may be necessary to be used for said care, viz:
