STATE ELECTION, NOVEMBER 2, 1954


Pursuant to the foregoing warrant a meeting was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday, the 2nd day of November, 1954, at 6:30 A.M. The following persons were appointed election offi- cers, sworn in by the Town Clerk, and assigned to their duties as follows: Mary Mair Etienne and Alice Ripley to distribute ballots, Abbie Sheahan and Anne Young to check at the ballot box, Coleman J. Hogan in charge of the ballot box.


Frank Kennedy, Helen Kennedy, William Owens, Barbara Lovely, Thomas Clancy, Margaret Kennedy, Mrs. C. Mckeown, Gladys Kennedy, Mildred Lombard, Joseph Mair, Alice Hogan and Shirley Considine were the tellers.


The ballots were delivered to the ballot clerks, the ballot box was examined and found in good working order and the warden upon reading the warrant declared the polls open at 6:30 A.M.


Cards of instructions and sample ballots were posted as required by law.


The polls were declared closed at 8:00 P.M. and after count- ing the ballots in open meeting, the results of the complete tabulations were announced as follows:


The total vote cast was 1494 of which 1449 were cast in person and 37 by Civilian Absentee Ballot. There were 8 Serv- icemen's War Ballots cast.

To either of the Constables of the Town of Medfield, in said County, greeting:


In the name of the Commonwealth you are directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Medfield, qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs, to meet at the High School Auditorium in said Medfield on Monday the 13th day of December A.D. 1954 at 7:30 P.M. then and there to act on the following articles:


Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of $65,000.00 for the acquisition of land for water sources and protection of the same and for the development of addi- tional water supply wells, pipes original pumping equipment and other necessary appurtenances, and to meet said appropria- tion to authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Select- men to borrow the sum of $65,000.00 under the authority of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, and to issue serial bonds or notes therefor, so that the whole sum shall be paid in not more than fifteen years from the date of issue of the first bond or note; said expenditures for said water supply develop- ment, other than acquisition of land, to be under the direction

Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen, as agents of the Town, to acquire for the purpose of developing a water supply well field and protection of same by purchase, eminent domain proceedings or otherwise, ali rights, titles and easements necessary for the purposes in the following parcels of land at West Main Street near the Char- les River, as shown on a plan drawn by Henry A. Kingsbury dated October 1954 and entitled "Plan of Land in Medfield, Mass., Showing Proposed Acquisition of Land for Water Sup- ply Purposes," of which a copy has been filed with the Town Clerk.

To see if the Town will authorize the Water and Sewerage Board to enter into an Agreement with the De. partment of Mental Health of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts for continuing joint use of the standpipe at the Medfield State Hospital when the Town commences production of its own water supply, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money from the Veterans Benefits Account, the Street Light- ing Account and Available Funds in the Town Treasury to the Contingent Fund to defray expenses, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to accept the fol- lowing named sums as Perpetual Trust Funds for the care of lots in the Vine Lake Cemetery, the interest thereof or as may be necessary to be used for said care, viz:

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING


December 13, 1954


The meeting was called to order by the Moderator at 7:30 P.M. and after reading the warrant the following action was taken on the articles therein:


Article 1. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the widening and improvement of the approaches to the Main Street railroad grade crossing between Spring Street and Park Street, said money to be used in conjunction with any money allotted by the State or County or both for this purpose, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to transfer from ยป unexpended balances and/or raise and appropriate and/or bor- row a sum of money for a tractor, front-end loader and other attachments, for the use of the Highway Department, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purchase of a Surface Ma- terial Spreader for the use of the Highway Department or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the completion of the construction of Pleasant Court or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the installation of a drainage system and completion of preliminary construction in accordance with

the plan of Pleasant Court on file with the Town Clerk and in the Registry of Deeds, the cost of the same to be repaid to the Town by the abutters under the provisions of Chapter 80 of the General Laws as betterment assessments, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate and/or borrow a sum of money for the installation of a drainage system in an easement extending in a southerly direc- tion from the corner of Oak and Park Streets, and from thence in a westerly direction under the roadbed of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to accept as part of a public way that section of Grove Street from Dale Street to the Public Dump which extends in a northwesterly direction from Dale Street for a distance of approximately 1690 feet as relocated by the Selectmen and as shown on a plan of relocation on file in the Town Clerk's Office.


Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate and/or borrow a sum of money to defray thecosts of land damage and for the reconstruction and surfacing of Grove Street between Dale Street anc the Public Dump in accordance with a plan on file in the Town Clerk's office, or do or act any- thing in relation thereto.


Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the reconstruction of a sidewalk on the easterly sice of North Street from the intersection of North and Pine Streets, southerly for an approximate distance of five hundred and twenty-five (525) feet, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the reconstruction of a sidewalk on the westerly side of Miller Street from a point two hundred and fifteen (215) feet south of Main Street to a point five hundred and seventy-three (573) feet south of Main Street, a distance of three hundred and fifty-eight (358) feet or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 24. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the reconstruction of a sidewalk on the westerly side of Pleasant Street from Main Street in a south- erly direction for a distance of approximately six hundred and fifteen (615) feet or do or act anything in relation thereto.

To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the reconstruction of a sidewalk on the easterly side of Janes Avenue from Main Street in a north- erly direction for a distance of approximately ninety (90) feet and on the northerly side of Main Street from Janes Avenue in an easterly direction for a distance of approximately ninety (90) feet, or do or act anything in relation thereto.

Article 26. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to lease from Francis D. Walsh a parcel of land on the corner of North Street and Janes Avenue shown on the Assessors' Map as Lot 238 for the purpose of Off-the-Street parking, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 27. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the leasing of Lot 238 as shown on the Assessors' Map on the southerly corner of North Street and Janes Avenue, or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 28. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Se- lectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install one (1) street light on pole No. 3 on Janes Avenue, the cost of instal- lation to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting un- der Article 3 or do or act anything in relation thereto.


Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Se- lectmen to petition the Boston Edison Company to install one (1) street light on pole No. 1/5 on North Street, the cost of in- stallation to be taken from the appropriation for Street Lighting under Article 3, or do or act anything in relation thereto.
