"The head of a Town department may sell, or otherwise dis- pose of, any item or article of property over which he has juris- diction, to the value of $250.00 or less, upon prior written authorization from the Board of Selectmen."


Article 5. Voted: on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town amend its By-laws by adding the following by-law thereto;


"No person shall fire or discharge any firearm or explosives of any kind within the limits of any highway, park, or other public property, except with the permission of the Board of Selectmen, or on any private property except with the consent of the owner or legal occupant thereof; provided, however, that this by-law shall not apply to the lawful defense of life or prop- erty, nor to any law enforcement officer acting in the discharge of his duties. Any person violating this by-law shall be punished by a fine of not more than twenty dollars for each offense."

Article 28. Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of $140. 00 for the purchase of a NEW ROTARY POWER MOWER for the Park and Cemetery Dept. and to permit the Park and Cemetery


Commissioners to dispose of the old power mower, and to use the proceeds toward the purchase price of the new mower.


Article 29. Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town amend the By-law relating to the classi- fication and salary of certain Town employees, as accepted in Article 2 of the Special Town Meeting of June 25, 1951 and

amended by Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting of November 26, 1951, by striking out the rate of pay for Tree Climbers of "$1.20 to $1.50 per hour", and substituting therefor "$1. 30 to $1. 60 per hour".

Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town amend the By-law relating to the classification and salary of certain Town employees as accepted in Article 2 of the Special Town meeting of June 25, 1951, by deleting the classifications and pay scales therein as they apply to the Highway Department, and substitute therefor the follow- ing classifications and pay scales for the Highway Department, only:

Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town raise and appropriate by transfer from the Machinery Account, the sum of $1, 200. 00 for the purchase of a NEW STONE SPREADER, for the Highway Department, and to authorize the Road Commissioner to dispose of three old sand spreaders and use the proceeds toward the purchase price of the new stone spreader.


Article 52. Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town authorize the Road Commissioner to sell, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen, the lumber taken from the "Old Road to Salem" and that the proceeds from sales be paid to the Town Treasurer.

Bean, dated September 3, 1951 and approved by the Lynn- field Planning Board . on February 3, 1953, and covering that portion of the street shown on said plan from the lot owned by Caldwell to the lot owned by Jacobsen, inclusive.


Article 72. Voted unanimously, on motion duly made and seconded, that the Town accept as a Public Way a portion of WING ROAD, as approved by the Lynnfield Planning Board and laid out by the Board of Selectmen, running in a southerly and south westerly direction from the southerly side of Strout Avenue, six hundred thirty eight (638) feet more or less, for a width of forty (40) feet, as shown on a plan by H. Kingman Abbott, C. Ear dated October 15, 1951, and approved by the Lynnfield Planning Board, and covering that portion of the street shown on said plans from lot 5b to lot 27a inclusive.
