Wenham August ye 5th 1756 Upon Complaint made to us the Subscribers by Mr Jona- than Porter of Sª Wenham against Captn John Dodge his fence as Being Insufficient Betwixt Sd Porters land Known by the name of fiskes land & Sª Dodges land Known by the name of hulls land & also for Sª Dodge Refusing To Divide fence Upon Sª line have accordingly met and Divided fence as follows (viz.) We order that Sd Dodge make a Good & lawfull fence from the Country Road Betwix Sd hulls & fisks land on the line on the South Side of Sª Dodges Hulls Land: To the Cor- ner & then turning one Pole from sd corner on the East Side of Sd hulls land as the old fence now Stands Which Part we adjudge Sd Dodge To make & maintain As his part of fence Betwixt sª lands & sª Porter To Make & maintain the other Part from Where sª Dodge leaves off on Sd Easterly Side till it meets with Mr Nath11 Brown Jr his land And also on further Complaint Made By Sd Porter against Sª Dodge his fence being Insufficient Up- on the Brook on the South Side of Sª Porters land Be- twixt that & Dodges home stead & also for want of A Division on Sd line have viewed & Divided & order as follows (to wit) that Sª Dodge A Good & lawfull fence Beginning at the Country Road By Sª Brook & Setting Sª fence By the Edge of Sd Brook on the Side next to his house till he Comes to A Stake Standing on the Edge of Sª Brook amongst a Parcel of alders on the North Side of Sd Brook mark. d D: P: being the bounds betwixt Sd Dodge & Sª Porters part of fence Sª Dodge to make & maintain the fence on the West Side of Sd Stake & Sª Porter to make & maintain that on the East Side of Sd Stake & To Set it on the Northerly Side of Sd Brook all the foregoing we Agree to & order for Sª Porter & Dodge to Perform

Brown & Jona Kimball were Sworn Assessors as the Law Directs


At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham April 25 : 1759. Then agreed with Mr Jona Porter for the use of His House Commonly Known by the Name of Paytons and a Garden for the Term of one year commencing the first of May ext for the French to Reside in for the Considera- tion of Fourteen Shillings and Eight Pence and the Herbage of the Buring Place


Also at the above meeting agreed with Mr William David- son for the Back Part of his House where the Fire Place is and the Bed Room with a Priviledge in the cellar and Garden Room for Thos Senter & Family to Reside in and Improve for the Space of one year Commencing the first Day of May next for The Consideration of one Pound Six Shillings and Eight Pence

Thomas Brown J Wenham May 23 1759 At a Town meeting of the Inhabitants of Wenham for the Choice of a Representative after Sev- eral Trials no Person was Elected at the abovesaid meet- ing Mr Benja Kimball was chosen Moderator and the Following Votes were Past. (Viz)


Voted to Receive the Report of the Comtee Chosen to view the Steeple of our meeting house which Report is as fol- lows viz We The Subscribers Being a Comtee Chosen to View the Steeple of our meeting-house and to make a Report to the Town at this meeting are of the mind that the Steeple had Best be Pulled Down in order to Save the House Wenham May 23 1759

And Then the Town made Choice of Messr Sam11 Good- ridge Sam" Tarbox Sam" Porter Jr Nath Brown and Josiah Fairfield to be a Comtee to Take Down the Steeple of the meeting-house and Provide materials for and Close up the Breach that may be thereby made and Lay Their accounts before the Town.

June 29 1759 At a Town meeting of The Inhabitants of Wenham M' Sam11 Goodridge moderator it was Put to vote wether they would Reconsider their Late Vote to Pull Down the Steeple and it Past in the Affairmative Oct 2 1759 At a Town meeting of The Inhabitants of Wenham Lawfully warned and Convened As by warrant on file may Appear M' Josiah Fairfield was Chosen Mod- erator and the following votes were Past viz


first Voted That the Sum of ninety Pounds Lawfull money be Raised to Defray the necessary charges of the Town the year Currant


Secdly Voted to Pull Down The Steeple on the Meeting house and Close up That Part of the Roof where it Stood with all Convenient Speed


3 Voted that Mess" Nath11 Brown Jacob Dodge Josiah Fairfield Sam11 Goodridge and Sam11 Tarbox be a Comtee to manage the affair of Pulling Down the Steeple and Closeing up the Roof as above mentioned.
