Att a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham April ye first Day - 1748 Then the Selectmen agreed that Patrick Burn should Live in the Towns hous it Being the hous that Aaron Jones formerly Lived in - a full year : be ginning at the: 10th Day of April : 1748 : & to Depart & leve sd house ye 10th of April wich will Be in the year : 1749 - & sd patrick Burn is to pay the Town for a year Rent for said hous & accor of Land which he is to Im- prove with sd Hous one pound: at ye sd years end. If he tack up with sd agreement - I the Subscriber take up with ye above mentioned agreement as witnesseth my hand.

We the Subscribers Being Lawfully Authorized have this Day Mett and perambulated and Renewed the Bounds Between Salem and Wenham Begining att a white oak Stump with stones about it Standing about one Rod & half north Easterly from Theophilus fiske Barn and Near the North End of Wenham Causeway - from thence over said Causeway south easterly To a Sake and Stons - Standing on the westerly side of the South End of said Causway wich is the Divisonal Bounds Between Wenham and porters farm - Thence about Swest to a stake and Sones Standing near the head of Leaches meadow at the Easterly Eand of ye Divisional wall - Betwen porters and Andrews Land - from Thence South Easterly to a white oak tree standing in the wall Betwen Benja Her- ricks John Bakers heirs marked with S and W from thence South Easterly to an heap of Stons In Josiah herricks orchard about Seven feet Easterly from an apple tree marked S & W being the second tree in the Second Row now standing in old orchard nor west of ye Seacond

this Day mett and Renewed the Bounds Between our sd Towns - as folooth - Beginning at a white oak stump wich was Salam Northerly Cornor bounds from thence about Twelve poles Easterly to a stake & heap of Stons By the high way Leading from Wenham Causway to bunkear Meadow - on the Weste Side of the said Way - from Thence to the plump of mapels so caled but now a stump and thence as the Brook Runeth to a Stake and heap of Stons at the going over the brook from Thence to ye South Easterly Corner of pigdon meadow (so caled) and so to the River - all Which al wich is according to the settlement in the year - 1740 - and in Confirma- tion of all above Ritten we have here unto seat to our hands.

Three months nexte Coming - to Teach our Children and youth to Read Right and Sifer - and said Goodridge is to have of the Town for his Service. three pounds pr month for keeping sd School & to Begin sd School the 26 Day of this Instant Desember.

October 11:1748 A Town meeting Leagaly assembled on adjurment - voted that the finishing Committee - Build : 14 seats on the Loer flower : 7 on the west side for men Seats &: 7: one the East side for woman seats - Each Buting on the grat South alley - voted that the finishing Committee Shall Lay the platform of Each range of pews - vote to have it Dun at the Town Cost: vote to have the platform of the wall pews: 15: Inches from the Lower flower to the uper side of ye pews flowers and the platform of the Iner Range of pews to be: Seven Inches from the Lower flower to the Uper Side of the pews flowers -


Voted that the finishing Committee proceed to Sealing The back Side of the wall pews as high as the botam of ye Window frams round the hous -


Voted that the Banisters of all the pews Shall be nine Inches Long & no longer. ye meeing is Dismissed

Voted to Chuse a Committee of three men to Suplye the Pulpit So long as the Town Shall see Good - the men

Desem™: 9 1748 A Town Meeting Lawfully assambled and Convened to Chuse a Committee to treat with mr Warren in order to make a final setelement with him for the Time past. also to here the account of a Committee Chosen to a Just accounts with Such as have found tim- ber or Dun Labour for our meeting or aney meterals for the Same. and Same other Buisness as by Warrant: m' Samuel Gott Chosen Moderator for this Town meeting the Vots as foloweth : voted to chuse three men to Treet with mr Warren who are by name Dea Kimball Nathaniel Faierfeld & John Gott but sd Gott refused Lef William Dode was Chosen in his Rome for ye buisness afore sd: namely - to see if they Could a gree to make a finoll setelement with him for the Time past. and mack Report to the Town for Concurance. then ye Town asaid to pro- ceed in the buisness of sd meeting : but sum objection was made that the warrant was not proper to proceed on : then the Town Voted by a grate magority that the war- rant was good & proper to acte on : & then the Town pro- ceeded : m" Samuel Rogers had made a Small Baking to that End of his Platform that butted on the East Staiers. sd Rogers Desired that he might butt his pewe on the

platform that was now made having that addition next to the East Stairs : aledging that his pue spot was sum- thing Straitendd & not Quite so large as was preposed but if the Town would grant him his Request he would be Satisfied with the measuer as it was Stated out to him wich was Readeley granted by a vote of ye Town Richard Kimball Desired the Same addition his pewe it Joyned to the west Stayers he likewise said yt his pue spot was Straightened. the Town voted to give him Leave to mack an Equal addition to his platform yt butted on ye Stairs. as Rogers had wich parsed by a Town vote provided that he would be for ever Satisfied with Equial Rome & mesh- uer as was granted to Sd Rogers before mentioned then the Town Receved the accounts of what was Due to a number of men for what they had Dun toward our meet- ing hous. also showed there minds By a vote that John Kimball & Richard Dodge had made two large a Demand on the Town the Comity to to act on it in thare account Voted yt ye Selectmen Should give a gineral order on the account that the a Justing Committee gave them to take to the Treasurer that ye Treasurer should pay or Discount ye same


Then the moderator adjurned the Town meeting from : 9 : Day of Desember to the Twelfe Day of this Instant 1748. Desember. and then mett.


Desem 12 1748: The Report of the Committee Chosen to Confer with mr warren about Seteling with him for the Time past: said they had ben with him but he at that time he was not able to Do any thing a bout it at that time. sd Committee is to Stand & proseed in the Buisnes to which they are Chosen if an oportunetey presents

March 13:1748 At a meeting of the Select men of Wenham Then agreed with Sam" Tarbox to do the Ser- vice of a Saxton for the space of one year next Ensuing for which he is to Receive two Pounds ten Shillings Last Emission with the Privilage of Diging Graves Provided his Demands therefor be not unreasonable


March 27 1749 At a meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Wenham Regulary warned and Convened m" Jona Porter Being Chosen moderator the Following votes were then Past


First that the Late Comtee for Supplying the Pulpit be further Imnowered to do it for two months next Ensuing Provided our Revd Pastor be not able to Perform his usual Labours among us


Secondly that the Towns acre of Land under the Im- provment of Patrick Burn Ly as Common for the year currant

1749 March 27 At another town meeting Regularly warned and assembled to chuse assessors mr Jona Porter being chosen moderator the Town made choice of Mess" Eben" Waldron Josiah Herrick Benja Fairfield Samuel Rogers and Jona Kimball jun" to be assesors for the En- suing year to which office they were sworn the Day above said


May 5 1749 Att a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham Then agreed that Samuel Tarbox be the Keeper of the Pound for the year currant Provided his Demands There- for be no more than the Law in that case allows.


May 17 1749 At a Town meeting of the Freeholders and other Inhabitants of Wenham Lawfully warned and Assembled in order to make Choice of a Person to Repre- sent them in a Great and General Court to be Begun held and Kept for his Majestys Service at the Court house in Boston upon Wednesday the Thirty first Day of may courrant after several trials made for the Choice of a Person for said Service none could be obtained and there- fore the Compassionate Regards of the Honble House of Representitives was Humbly Requested

Business of the above said meeting the Following votes were then Past - vis - - - First that the finishing Comtee be Impowered to Pur- chase What materials may be necessary to finish the meet- ing house Excepting the Pulpit.


Secdly Voted that the Said Comtee be Impowered to finish our meeting house with all convenient speed agreeable to their Instructions Excepting the Pulpit as above -- -- Thirdly Voted that the Late comtee for Supplying the Pulpit be further Impowered to do the same till the Last of July next Ensuing -


Fourly Voted that the Comtee chosen to make Sale of the Spots for Pews be obliged to make up with the town therefor by the Last of may Instant -


Fifthly Voted that the accounts Laid before the Town by the Comtee Chosen to Provide for the Raising of the meeting house be accepted


Sixthly Voted to Leave it with the Selectmen to Receive what is Due to the town from Sundry Persons for old Stuf and other things and make what Discounts they think Reasonable


Lastly Voted that the Swine have Liberty to go at Large the present year being yoked and wringed according to Law - -


July 6 1749 At a Town meeting of the Inhabitants and freeholders of the Town of Wenham Lawfully warned and assembled m" Samuel Gott Being Chosen moderator the following votes were then Past viz


first Voted that the finishing comtee be Impowered to Build the Pulpit as they may be Instructed by the Town- Secdly Voted that the finishing Comtee have a Discre- tionary Power to Build said Pulpit in such a form and manner as may be most agreeable to the other Parts of the house


Lastly Voted that the Comtee for Supllying the Pulpit still' continue to Do it till they Receive further Instruc- tions from the Town -


July 6 1749 At a meeting of the Selectmen of Wenham it was Then agreed that Benjamin Bragg Should be a School master in the Town to teach Children to Read

Sept 18 1749 At a town meeting of the Inhabitants of Wenham Regularly warned and convened m" Samuel Gott was Chosen moderator then for Particular Reasons said meeting was adjourned to monday the second Day of October following at two aclock afternoon


Oct" 2 1749 Then Being met upon adjournment the following votes were then Past namely


1 that a Certain Sum of money out of the Publick Treasury be allowed in order to Defrey the Funeral Charges of our Late Pastor the Revd mr John Warren Decd.


2 that the Selectmen be Impowered to adjust accompts with any of the Comtees that have Been Imployed in our Publick affairs


3 voted that the vacant Places in the Galleries of the meeting house be filled with seats the the hindmost of which to be finished with Banisters at the Discretion of the finishing Comtee


4 that Town meetings of the future be warned accord- ing to the former custom any vote or Practice to the Con- trary notwithstanding.


and at a meeting of said inhabitants of Wenham on the Day abovementioned warned at Three of the Clock

1 That m" Samuel Turell be the minister of this Town in Concurance with the Churches Late Choice which vote was unanimous


2 Voted that mr Samuel Gott mr Caleb Coye and m" Jona Porter be a Comtee for the Town to Joyn with the Churches Comtee in Confering with mr Turell with Re- gard to his Settlement among us -


3 Voted that the money Lately Contributed which is now in the hands of Deacon Fisk be Deposited in the Town Treasury -

1 Voted that the Sum of one Hundred and twenty five Pounds in Bills of the Last Emission or in a medium Equivalent thereto be offered to m' Samuel Turrell for a Stated Salary to be paid annually so Long as he shall continue to Discharge the office of a Gospel minister among this People -


2 Voted that the Sum of Two Hundred and fifty Pounds in Bills of the Last Emission or Equivalent be offered to m' Samuel Turell for a Settlement one half thereof to be Paid within twelve months after his ordination and the Remainder at or before the Expiration of two years there from


3 Voted that the sum of two Hundred Pounds : Last Emission be Raised in order to Defray the necessary charges of the town -


4 Voted that mr Jona Porter Capt Thos Tarbox and m" Richard Dodge be a Comtee to treat with mrs Elizabeth Warren administratrix to the Estate of her Late Husband the Revd m" John Warren Decd in order to make an adjustment of all accounts that may be Between said Estate and the Town and to make Report at the next Town meeting.

Voted that there be a weekly free Contribution appro- priated to the use of m" Samuel Turell to Commence Im- mediately after his ordination
