A postoffice established in 1863, in Banks township, in the northwest corner of Antrim county, 22 miles from Elk Rapids, the county seat, 40 from Traverse City, the nearest railroad station, and 354 by rail from Detroit. Its shipments are wheat, potatoes, fish, wood and bark. Stage to Traverse City and Elk Rapids. Tri-weekly mail. James N. Sickels, postmaster.

A postoffice formerly known as Pine Grove in Arbela township, Tuscola county. . It is 30 miles southwest of Caro, the county seat, and 4 northeast of Clio, on the F & P M Ry. Population about 25. The surrounding country is rolling timber land. Grain, pota- toes, hay, butter, cheese and cooper's stock form the principal exports. A postoffice in the northern part of Bay county, 30 miles north of Bay City and five east of Standish. Is a thriving incorporated village of some Soo inhabitants, settled in IS30, and pleas- antly situated in Armada township, Macomb county, about midway between Romeo and Ridgeway. It is on the Michigan Air Line railway, and is the center of a prosperous farming region. It has no water power and its manufacturing enterprises are limited, embracing only a stave and handle factory, a sash and blind factory, a cheese factory and a flouring mill. Armada has 4 churches, Methodist, Congregational, Baptist and Ad. ventist. A good hall in connection with the National Hotel has recently been built. Grain, flour, apples, cheese, staves and handles constitute the principal shipments. The Western Union Telegraph has an office here. Mail daily. Stage to Berville and Capac triweekly. ARVON.


A settlement of 100 people, formed in 1872 in the northeastern part of Baraga county, 12 miles from L'Anse, to which point ship- ments should be made. It is in the vicinity of extensive slate quarries, and slate forms the chief export. Mail stage to L'Anse tri- weekly. John Thomas, postmaster.
