A village on the M. C. R. R. Air line, in the township of Concord, Jackson county. The village is on the Kalamazoo river, which furnishes good water power. CONDIT.


A station on the Lansing branch of the L. S. & M. S. Ry., 4 miles south of Albion. It is in Albion township, Calhoun county, and has no postoffice.


CONGER.


A station on the G. R. & I. R. R .. 3 miles above Howard City, and 38 north of Grand Rapids. It is in the northwestern corner of Montcalm county.


CONNER'S CREEK.


A small settlement on the Gratiot road. 6 miles northeast of Detroit. It is in the township of Grosse Point, Wayne county, and takes its name from a small stream which flows into the Detroit river just above the city of Detroit, at the crossing of which stream it is situated. CONSTANTINE.


One of the oldest villages in southern Michigan, is situated at the confluence of the Fawn and St. Joseph rivers, in the south- western part of St. Joseph county. It is a station on the Kalamazoo division of the L. S. & M. S. railway, 4 miles north of White Pigeon, 8 south of Three Rivers, and 10 southwest of Centreville, the county seat. The settlement was begun in 182S, and the village, which is incorporated, now claims a population of 2000. The surrounding country is fine, and the general features of the town are very good. Both rivers furnish excellent water power, that of the St. Joseph being equal to any in the state. The present manufactories are two flour mills, a saw mill, a furniture and a chair factory, a foundry and machine shop, and two carriage and wagon shops. One of the finest school houses of . southwestern Michigan may be seen here. It cost some $32,000, and gives employment to one principal and 6 assistant teachers. The other public buildings are 4 churches, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lu-


theran and Reform. There are two good hotels and 2 newspapers, The Weekly Four- nal, Wm. A. DeGroot & Co., publishers, and the St. Joseph County Advocate, of which L. T. Also known as Cooper's Corners, a village and station on the G R & I R R, in Cooper township, Kalamazoo county, 6 miles north of Kalamazoo and 150 from Detroit. The village was settled in IS35 and claims 300 inhabitants. It has two churches, Congre- gational and Methodist. Wheat, pork and apples are the staple shipments. Mail, daily. COPPER FALLS MINE.


The postoffice and village located at the Copper Falls Mine, in Eagle Harbor town- ship, Keweenaw county, 3 miles from Eagle Harbor and 5 from Eagle River, the county seat. Calumet 20 miles southwest is the near- est railroad station. The place was first settled in IS45, and the mine here is one of the oldest on the lake. COPPER HARBOR.


A mining village of 250 inhabitants at the rx'reme northern point of the Kewechay jennicht, 25 miles east of Eagle River, the Trinity seat. It has a good natural harbor


and is the oldest mining settlement on the lake. Mining, however, has never been very successful, and the place has not improved. The stamp mills of the Clark Mine are lo- cated here, and copper is the only shipment. Settled IS43. Stage daily to Eagle Harbor, and daily mail. George W. Sumner, post- master.

COREY.


A post village of about 100 inhabitants, in Newburg township, on the eastern border of Cass county. It is a station on the Air line division of the M CR R, 7 miles west of Three Rivers, 14 east of Cassopolis and 132 from Detroit. The surrounding country is undulating with a fertile soil. A postoffice and small place in Byron township, near the southern edge of Kent county, two miles east of Ross station on the GR & IR R, and 12 miles south of Grand Rapids. Settled in 1865. CORUNNA.


An incorporated city of 1, 500 inhabitants, is the county seat of Shiawassee county. It is situated on the D. & M. railroad, 75 miles northwest of Detroit, 22 west of Flint and 30 north of Lansing, the latter city being reached by the Saginaw division of the M. C. R. R. from Owosso, 3 miles west. The Shiawassee river, which at this point is a beautiful stream, runs through the heart of the city, affording the most valuable hydrau- lic power that can be found along its entire length. The surrounding country is one of the best agricultural sections in this part of the state, and it has in its immediate vicinity some of the finest farms in the county. The principal manufactures are flour, lumber, staves, spokes, moldings, sash, doors and blinds, woolens, fanning mills, castings, etc. The most important interest, however, is the developement of the coal mines just east of the city. These mines are owned by the Corunna Coal Co., and are destined to make Corunna one of the most important manu- facturing points in the state. By the first of May, IS77, the company expect to be able to ship 50 tons a day and in the course of 2 years 200 tons a day. Corunna has I National Bank, a printing office-the Shiawassee American-and five church edifices -- Pres- byterian, Methodist, Baptist, Universalist Ro- man Catholic, and Episcopal. Its societies are-Masonic lodge, Chapter, Commandery and Council-Odd Fellow's lodge, and En- campment-Grange, Patrons of Husbandry- and Ladies Library Society, with over a thou- sand volumes. COUNTY LINE.


A postoffice and station of the F. & P. M. Ry., on the line between Saginaw and Gen- esee counties. It is 15 miles north of Flint, and 18 south of Saginaw. The set- tlement was formed in 1864. Population now 100. It is in a timbered section, and lumber, hoops, heading, staves, and shingles are the only exports. Mail, daily. John McCrady, postmaster.
