DECATUR,
A post town of Washington township and the county seat of Adams county, on the west side of St. Mary's river, and was first settled in 1837. It contains a court house, county officers, three or four churches, several stores, manufacturers of wood, iron, &c., good schools, and a newspaper, the "Decatur Eagle," published weekly by H. L. Phillips and W. G. Spencer, and is distant 24 miles south-east of Fort Wayne, and 110 north-east of Indianapolis. Pop- ulation, 1,500.

DEEP RIVER,
A post office of Lake county, situated on the east line of the county, 9 miles from Crown Point, the county seat, and 45 miles from Chicago, in a north-easterly direction, 9 miles from Lake station, on the Michigan Central Railroad, and 2} miles from the P., F. W. & P. R. R., where the nearest station will be located. The village is called Woods' Mills. The post office is called Deep River, from the river that passes through it. It has two general stores, one blacksmith, three flour and grain dealers, one mill, one lumber dealer, one saw mill, and a school, with an attend- ance of thirty pupils.

DELPHI,
The seat of Justice of Carroll county, was laid out in 1828; soon after which the first county officers were elected. The town is situated on a fine mill stream called Deer creek, about 1 mile above its mouth. It is about 1 mile from the Wabash river, on the Wabash and Erie Canal, and on the Toledo, Wabash and Western R. R. This road connects Toledo, on Lake Erie, with St. Louis on the Mississippi. At this time Delphi is theught to contain about 2,500 inhabitants. It is a point of great commercial activity ; as to grade is about the fourth in the pork trade in the State. The banking house of Messrs. Spears, Case & Co. does a heavy business, although not a bank of issue. The two paper mills located here are doing a fine business- Messrs. Rinchart & Bowen and Robertson & Wood-also, the flouring mills of Bolles & Garrett and D. D. Duke. A handsome court house is now being erected, which will be equal, in point of architectural' beauty, with any similar building in the State. The produce business is principally carried on by Mesers. Spears, Case & Co., Abner H. Bowen, Win. Bolles and Joel II. Dewey. Two newspapers are printed here-the - Weekly Tours," M. R. Graham, editor, and "Delphe Weekly Journal," Jas. B. Scott, editor. Distant from Toledo, 186 miles, 65 miles from Indianapolis, 18 miles from Lafayette, and 22 miles from Logans- port.

A post village of Wayne county, situated on the west fork of White Water, and on the Indiana Central Railway, 52 miles from Indianapolis, 16 miles from Rich- mond, 2 miles from Cambridge City, and 17 miles from Knightstown, and was laid out by Davis. It contains five churches, one Methodist, one United Brethren, two Society of Friends or Qua- kers, one Universalist, one drill manufac- tory, one reaping machine factory, one foundry and machine shop, two carriage shops, three cooperages, two wagon shops, six dry goods stores, three groceries, three boot and shoe stores, three blacksmiths, one tin shop, one harness and saddle shop. A large quantity of grain and produce is shipped from this point. It has a very ac- tive trade, and the country around is rich and intersected by railroads, affording every facility requisite for the shipment of produce to larger markets. Popula- tion 1,800.
