It con- tains two hotels, six general stores, two ware houses, one baker and confectioner, one banker and exchange dealer, four blacksmiths, two boot and shoemakers, five carpenters, one cabinet maker, one carriage and wagon factory, one clothing store, one druggist, one flour and produce dealer, one newspaper office, one steam flouring mill, one steam saw mill, two harness makers, two grocers, two resident farmers, one attorney, one lumber dealer, two justices of the peace, one marble worker, one stove and tin shop, one jew- eler, one painter, one tanner and currier, , two tailors, two clergymen, four churches, four physicians, and two schools with an aggregate attendance of 80 pupils. ZIONSVILLE,
A post village of Boone county, situated near Eagle Creek, on the Lafayette and Indianapolis Railroad, 15 miles north of Indianapolis.
The village was laid out in 1853, by Messrs. Elijah Cross- and William Zion, deriving its name from the latter.
It is surrounded by a fine farming country, and is a point where large quan- tities of grain finds shipment. Large quan- tities of wheat are also manufactured into flour, which finds sale in eastern mar- kets.
The place contains one steam flouring mill, one water flouring mill, one steam saw mill, and one water saw mill, one steam planing mill, one tannery, one ho- tel, six dry goods stores, two groceries, , three blacksmiths, two wagon makers, one painter, one tailor, one gun smith, four carpenters, four shoe makers, one justice of the peace, one attorney, one express office, one boarding house, two engineers, one saddle and harness ma- ker, one drug store, four physicians, one clergyman, one church, one Masonic Lodge, and one school with an average attendance of 120 pupils. Population 500.
