COLUMBIA CITY,
A post city and the county seat of Whit- ley county, situated on the north bank of Blue River, on the line of the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad, and Lo- gansport and Northern Indiana Railroad. The buildings are mostly of wood. The court house is built of brick, costing $9,000. It is a fine, substantial building. It con- tains five churches, viz: one Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian and Ger- man Lutheran church, one Masonic Hall, one Odd Fellows, five ministers, eight layers, three notaries public, eight physi- cians, a number of stores and manufacto- ries of wood, iron, and one newspa- per, the "Columbia City News," T. L. Graves, editor. Population 1,300.
