*These PAPERS are chronologically arranged ; and that there may not ap- pear an inconsistency in their arrangement as to dates it is necessary to state, that previous to 1752, there were two methods of commencing the year in England and her Colonies; the Ecclesiastical and Legal year which began the twenty-fifth day of march, and the Historical year which began the first day of January. This difference established a custom of donble dating between January first and March twenty-fifth; thus March nine- teenth 1734-5, or 173;, the figure four denotes the Ecclesiastical and Legal year, and the figure five, the Historical. The Act of Parliament of 1752, made January the first, the first day of the year. It is evident that the date 1728, should be 1729.

AND one great Reason is that there was a Proclamation made to the Army in the name of the Governmt (as living Evidences very fully testify ) when they were muster'd on Dedham Plain where they began their March, that if they played the man, took the Fort & Drove the Enemy out of the Narraganset Country, which was their great Seat, that they should have a gratuity in Land besides their Wages ; and it is well known, & our Sitting to hear this
