NECEDAH. An incorporated village in township of same name, Juneau county, situated at the base of a high bluff, on the Yellow river, a few miles from its mouth. It is an important lumbering town and in manufacturing interests and wealth ranks among the first in the county. It is on the C., M. & St. P. and C. & N. W. Rys, 19 miles north of Mauston, the county seat, and 11} northeast of New Lisbon, the nearest banking point. The town now con- tains a new hotel, Congregational, Metho- dist, Catholic and Norwegian Lutheran churches, a good graded high school, lodges of the principal secret and benevo- lent societies, 2 large lumber, lath and shingle mills, blacksmith shops, cranberry warehouses and a flour mill. A weekly newspaper, the Necedah Republican, is published. Lumber and cranberries are the principal shipments. Population, 1,500. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. John T. Kings- ton, postmaster.

NEENAH. A prosperous city in Winnebago county, at the outlet of Lake Winnebago, on the Fox river, which af- fords almost unrivalled water power, and on the C. & N. W. Ry, the Wisconsin' Central Line and the Appleton branch of the M. & N. R. R., 98 miles northwest of Milwaukee, 13 northeast of Oshkosh, the county seat, and 6 southwest of Appleton. Neenah has many important manufactur- ing interests, among which are paper mills, a pulp mill, stove foundries, kettle foundry, brewery, flouring mills, machine shops, dye works, brick yards, a sewer pipe factory, a sash, door and blind fac- tory, plow factories, a boot and shoe fact- ory, and an electric light company. The city contains a number of hotels, the Rus- sell house being the leading hotel. Three newspapers are published, the Gazette (weeklv), Times (daily and weekly), Twin City News (daily and weekly). There are two banks, the National Bank of Neenah. and Manufacturers' National Bank of Neenah. A high school and several graded schools are maintained. The Bip- tist, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian and Universalist churches are represented and well sustained. A street car line con- nects the city with Menasha, one mile to the north.
