SHEBOYGAN FALLS. A thriving village located in Sheboygan county, on the Sheboygan river and the S. & W. branch of the C. & N. W. Ry, 5 miles west of Sheboygan, the county seat. In- corporated as a village in 1854, it has had a substantial growth, and now contains the largest woolen mill in the State, a large tannery, 2 machine shops, a plow factory, a chair factory, planing mill, lime kiln, 2 banks, 1 newspaper, 5 churches, a public library of about 400 volumes, an excellent opera house, seating capacity 600, and the usual number of stores, etc., with probably more tributary cheese fac- tories than any village in the State. The County Dairy Board of Trade meets here Tuesdays, and makes the village the cheese market of the county. The river at this point, by a series of rapids offers an avail- able water power of 35 feet head in 3 dams, but the water supply compels the manu- factories to use steam also. Cheese, woolen goods, agricultural implements, lime, grain and farm produce constitute the principal shipments. Three stages run to Weeden daily. Telephone, Wisconsin Circuit. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am. and U. S. Ac- cording to census population is 1.107. Five mails daily. B. F. Heald, postmaster.
