Ry, in Barron county, 12 miles northeast of Barron, the judicial seat, and 255 northwest of Milwaukee. It was incorporated as a city in 1887, and contains 5 churches, a high and 3 public schools, a fire department, a roller flouring mill, stave, hub and spoke mills, 2 planing mills, 2 saw mills, 2 banks, good hotels, and the usual number of stores, etc. Two live weekly newspapers, the Chronotype (Rep.) and the Rice Lake Times (Dem.), are published. The surrounding country is fast being cleared up, and a large area of good farm- Ing district is now tributary to the city. Lumber, hubs, spokes, staves and grain are the principal shipments.
