MENOMONIE. The judicial seat of Dunn county, is a prosperous incorporated city, located on the M. br. of the C., M. & St. P. Ry, near the crossing of the E. div. of the C., St. P., M. &O. Ry, 240 miles northwest of Milwaukee and 70 from St. Paul, Minn. It is the receiving and dis- tributing point for a rich district tributary, is rapidly growing in wealth and import- ance, and now contains 2 Methodist. 2 Baptist, Episcopal, Congregational, Ger- man Lutheran, Catholic and 3 Nor- wegian churches, 7 schools, employ- ing 28 teachers and having an average attendance of 1,200 pupils,a public library with 1,600 volumes, 2 public halls, first- class hotels, 3 large lumber and shingle mills, a flouring mill, 6 brick yards and numerous well stocked special and general stores, etc. Four weekly newspapers, the Dann County News, the Nordstern, the Times, and the Dunn County Herald. are published. There is an excellent system of water works, and a volunteer fire department with a chemical engine, a hook and ladder and 2 hose trucks. Lum-
