BANKS.

There are in Atlanta banks doing business on the capital mentioned below:

Mr. H. I. Kim- bail proposes at no di-time day to supply Atlanta with water from the Chat ahoochee river, by mems of a canal from some point of river above the city.

States, but the attention of the peo- ple of the whole civilized world. The Exposition was suggested by Mr. Edward Atkinson, of Massachusett-, in a speech delivered by him in At- lanta October 19, 1880, upon the cul- tivation, preparation and manufac ture of cotton and allied topics. This idea was seized upon, and a stock company organized for the purpose of holding a grand International Cot- ton Exposition at Atlanta, for the display of textile fabrics, and all the processes, implements, machinery and appliances, from the preparation of the soil to grow the cotton or fred the sheep, to the finished goods, and even the manner in which they are put upon the market. The great Exposition building occupies a per- feedly level space within the half- mile track in Oglethorpe Park. The central room is 112 fret square and two stories high. The long wings are 95 feet wide and 301 feet long. The full length of this mouster build ing is 720 feet, and width 400 feet, giving a floor space of SS, 560 feet, or two aeres. This building will be! perfectly protected from fire and lighted by electricity. Hon. Ben- jamin Conley, P. M.
