Altamaha-Largest stream in the State ; formed by junction of the Oc. ' hoochee, having its source in Union mulgee and Oconce; flows southeast county and an outlet about 10 miles and empties into the Atlantic by two below Gainesville. Goll is found in outlets, the north branch passing by paying quantities in the bed of this Darien through Doboy sound south of stream.
Sapelo island, and the south branch , through Ahamaha sound above Little St. Simon's island. Navigable 200 miles to the junction above named.

Etowah - This stream, celebrated for its excellent water power and rich alluvial soit, joins with the Outanaula at Rome, to form the Cara. Its head is in Lumpkin coun- ty, whence it follows a southerly course to a point near Auraria, con- tinning thence southwest.
Flint-From a point in DeKalb county, this stream pursues a some. what devious course south and south- west for upwards of 300 miles, until it joins the Chattahoochee at the extreme southwestern corner of the State and nnites in forming the Apa- lachicola. The latter has semi- weekly steamboat communication 12 miles to the mouth of Flint, thence to Apalachicola, Fla. Large ship- ments of cotton go by this channel.
Hiawassee - A tributary of the Tennessee river, taking its rise in the Blue Ridge ; upper portion of Haber- sham county, and following a north- westerly course until it reaches its outlet.
Hudson-This stream also has its origin in Habersham county; flows southeast and empties into Broad river. .
Little River-Remarkable for its rapid current, is a stream of about 65 iniles in length aud an important supply for the Oconce, into which it ; tiupties a few miles above Milledge- ville, after a southeastetly course from Its head, in Walton county.
Newport ( North)-Rises in Liberty county ; isabout 30 miles in length, unvigable to Riveborough, and emp- ties into the Atlantic ocean above or opposite St. Catherine's island.
Newport ( South)-Forms the boun- dary between Liberty and MeInto-h counties, and flows into Sapelo bound.
Ochlochnce-Has its source in the south central part of the State, fol- low- a southwesterly course into From St. Mary's to-
Fiorida, then flows southeast and fall- into Shallow bay, an arm of Apa- ; Jacher y bay.
Orilla-Takes its rise in Thomas county, and flowing south, empties into Apalachee bay, Fis.
Ocmulgee-West branch of the Al. famaha. Head waters in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. tienoral cofftre southeast, uniting with the (contec and forming the Aitamalia,
a few miles east of Lumber City. Boats of very light draft can ply as high up this stream as Macon, some- thing over 250 miles above the con- fluence, or about 500 miles from Da- rien. Another small stream called Little Ocmulgee rises in Twiggs county and falls into this river at . Lumber City.
Oconec-East branch of the Alta- maha. Has its source in Habersham county, and running east of south, joins the Ocmulgee near Lumber City, in Telfair county, and forms the Al- tamaha. The Oconee furnishes ex- cellent water power at Athens.
Ogeechee-Forms in Greene coun- ty, and following a southeasterly course for more than two hundred miles, discharges its waters into the Atlantic through Ossibaw sound. It has two tributaries, cach known as Little Ogeechee ; one in Sereven county, and the other from Hancock into Washington county.
Ohoopee-Finds an outlet by the Altamaba river at northeast corner of Appling county, after following a southeasterly flow from its source in Washington county, a distance of one hundred miles. Little Ohoopee flows into this stream in Emanuel county.
Ouyangula-Formed of the waters of the Conne-auga and Coosawattee rivers ; dows southeast, and uniting with the Etowah at Rome, composes the Coosa. Not navigable.
St. Mary's-Navigable for sloops about thirty miles, and for boats up- wards of sixty miles. A very erook- ed stream, having three distinct sources ; one from Lake Spalding, another from Lake Randolph, and a third from Okedimonte swamp. Flows sonth, then almost due north, and again cast, empting into the At- lantic ut Cumberland sound.

Satilla-Sometimes called St. Illa, has its souree in Appling county, flows east, thence south, and again east for a total distance of 150 miles, and empties into St. Andrew sound. Navigable a short distance above its mouth. Another stream, called Lit- tle Satilla, forms the boundary line between Camden and Glynn coun- ties, and empties into the Atlantic above Satilla river proper.
Savannah-Boundary line between Georgia and South Carolina. It is among the largest rivers of Georgia, and the first in importance. The Chattooga (or Chatuga) river, be- tween Rabun county, Georgia, and Oconee counts, South Carolina, mects the Tallulah, flowing from a north- western source, at lower point of Ra- bun, where the Tugalo is formed, which in turn nites with the Kio wee at Andersonville, Sonth Caro- line, continuing thenee as the Savan- nab, about 130 miles, to Augusta, (not navigable, ) 266 miles to Savan- nah, (steamboat navigation, ) and thence 18 miles to Tybee island, at its mouth. Ocean vessels run up to the city of Savannah.
