y"An Agricultural Journal is a First-Class Advertising Medium, i: coming eagerly looked for, its columns closely and continually read and referred to, the Paper preserved, making a ready and permanent Directory of Season- able Hints and Advertisements."

A Weekly Journal of Southern Agriculture and Live Stock Industries.

SUCCESSOR TO "SOUTHERN PLANTER & GRANGE," ATLANTA, GA .; "RURAL SUN," NASHVILLE, TENN., "THE PLANTATION," MONTGOMERY, ALA.

On the first day of Jannary, 1880, a combination of the three leading Agricultural Journals of the South was effected. This combination gives three-fold power to the Journal which is the result of the combination.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

"THE DIXIE FARMER is a bright, handsome eight-page sheet, devoted to Agriculture in all its branches, and ought to be welcomed by the farmers of the South, as no part of the country is more in need of Journals devoted to farming interests."-New York Sun.

" We congratulate all concerned on the consolidation, and more than all do we congratulate the South, which will now have, at a low price, a single jeper, containing the excellencies of three, equal to any published in America." -. Atlanti Const bition.

" Is bound to be a great success. The combination deserves success, and will command it."" [Nashville Christian Advocate.

"Indeed, we doubt if any agricultural paper ever started, South or North, under more favora- ble anspices."- Montgomery Advertiser.

" The very best Agricultural paper ever published South."-Nashville Banner.

No objectionable advertisements admitted at any price. This feature alono is doubly valuable to both advertisers and readers. Our readers place confidence in our advertising columns, and order without hesitation, knowing we admit nothing but reliable advertisements.

Considering our large and increasing circulation, and the tremendous influence we are enabled to throw in your favor, the advertising rates will be found low.

FIFTEEN CENTS PER LINE FOR EACH INSERTION.

A liberal discount on larre or continued advertisements.

The DIXIE FARMER is the most reliable medium of which an advertiser can avail himself for the purpose of bringing his business and his name into extensive and permanent notice thronghont this and adjoining States.

The universal verdict of those who have occupied space in its columns has been that of eatis- faction at results.

We desire your patronage, and in order to obtain it, we offer you a good investment that will always pay you. Trusting we may be favored with your order,

We are, yours respectfully,

The inspection and analysis of com- mercial fertilizers are placed under the charge of the commissioner, and no fertilizer can be admitted to sale without his consent. The result is that & worthless or very poor fertili- zer cannot be found on the market in Georgia. Georgia is the only State in the Union having and enforeing such a law.

The analysis of fertilizers are regu- larly published by the commissioner, and circulated throughont the State, from which every person can see the exact value of every brand sold in the State.

The fees for inspecting fertilizers are fifty cents per ton. The season of 1880-81, 152,464 tons were inspected, bringing nearly $73.000 into the State treasury.

The commissioner has appointed five inspectors who are paid salaries -- the highest not exceeding $1,000.

These inspectors are O. T. Rogers, Savannah: Troup Butler, Brunswick; Samuel Hawkins, Augusta; E. L. Thomas, Macon ; J. S. Lawton, At- lanta.

The entire expenses of the depart- ment, including salaries of the chem- ist and inspectors, is less than $23,000. It thus brings into the State treasury fully twice as much as all its expen- ses.
