The South- ern Express Co. and Western Union Telegraph Co. have offices here. Fruit raising is one of the principal industries of this section and is car- ried on very successfully. THE GLADES. Hall County.


Formerly called Polksville. Mining is the principal industry of this thriving little village. Population 500. The Glade mines are most worthy of mention. Claimed to be the oldest in the State, and are also celebrated for having vielded several valuable diamonds. They are now being worked as hydraulic and ledge mines, the water being conveyed by a 6-mile diteh. The mines are ope- rated by power derived from Flat creek, which also furnishes power to operate one saw and flouring mill and cotton ein. The Glades i- 12 miles north of Gainesville, the county seat, and banking town; 6 from Lula, its nearest express, teleg aph and rail- road station, cit which Atlanta is 71 miles distant.
