Report of Selectmen
The Selectmen herewith submit the report of their doings for the year ending December 31, 1911:
The sudden death of Superintendent of Streets James E. Blanche was a shock to an unusually large circle of friends. Mr. Blanche was as popular an official as ever held a town position. For a number of years he was prominent in town affairs, directing the fire department with an energy and a kindliness that won him the regard and loyalty of every member of the force. As superintendent of streets and tree warden, his work was always for the best interests of the town. A gentleman, a good citizen, a conscientious public servant, he will be missed in many ways. Mr. Charles F. Blanche was appointed to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the season. The selectmen have been satisfied with his work so far.

SEVENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL REPORT
REPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS
To the Selectmen:
Work on the highways was begun, according to the usual custom, by cleaning the gutters as soon as the ground would permit in the spring, after which graveling and other repairs were done on the various streets as follows: North Street, 170 loads gravel; Warren Street, 165 loads gravel and 17 loads ashes; Cottage Street, 27 loads gravel; Allen Street, 267 loads gravel; Depot Street, 76 loads gravel; Union Street, 412 loads gravel; South Main Street, 536 loads gravel, repaired and cleaned drain; Mt. Pleasant Square, 41 loads gravel, laid 36 feet, 12 inches drain pipe and cleaned ditch; Pleasant Street, 32 loads gravel; South Street, 32 loads gravel; Center Street, 82 loads gravel; Roel Street, 44 loads gravel; Mill Street, 217 loads gravel; Plain Street, 107 loads gravel, repaired bridge and cleaned ditch; Short Street, 114 loads gravel; Howard Street, 14 loads gravel; Liberty Street, 463 loads gravel; Belcher Street, 11 loads gravel; West Street, 9 loads gravel and made a new basin; Canton Street, 34 loads gravel. Cleaned all catch basins, mowed the grass and cut the brush on all streets that needed it. Paid snow bills of 1910 and 1911. We oiled the Main Street with Tarvia, which was quite an expense. Repaired fences on the various streets that needed it; made a few repairs on the steam roller and repairs on snowplow. Built Park Street, a new street, out of the 1911 appropriation.
CHARLES F. BLANCHE, Superintendent of Streets.
