SEVENTY-THIRD ANNUAL REPORT
loads gravel and 12 loads ashes; Mill street, 21 loads gravel and removing 30 feet 12-inch pipe; Short street, 2 loads ashes ; Howard street, 39 loads gravel; Moulton street, 10 loads gravel on sidewalk; Union street, 36 loads gravel and repair- ing bridge; Ward street, 7 loads gravel and 12 loads ashes on sidewalk; Belcher street, 65 loads gravel; Cottage street, 12 loads gravel and laying 62 feet 12-inch pipe; Pleasant street, 30 loads gravel; North Main street, 2,700 feet crushed stone road, 620 tons of stone were used and 32 loads gravel; West street, 62 loads gravel; Orchard street, 32 loads gravel, removing large stones and laying 50 feet 12-inch pipe.
We had to buy a new crusher, for which we paid $600.00, as the old one was of no use. And buying new parts and re- pairs on engine and laying new water pipe for the same, and repairs on crusher building and building fences was quite expensive. Mowed the grass on all streets that was needed, and cutting of bushes. Digging ditches on the Fanny Belcher lot. Cleaned all catchbasins. Crushed 684 540 /2,000 tons of stone. Paid snow bill of 1907 and 1908 of $305.42.
Would recommend that there be raised $1,000 for the remov- ing of snow, instead of taking it from the Highway appro- priation, as Highland avenue is in very poor condition and needs a great deal of repairs.

SEVENTY-THIRD ANNUAL REPORT
Report of the Overseers of the Poor.
The Overseers of the Poor herewith submit their report for the year ending December 31, 1908.
At the Almshouse M. M. Sullivan and wife continue in charge as Warden and Matron. The inmates have a good home, are well cared for in every way, and have no occasion to com- plain of any lack of interest in their behalf. The Warden and Matron are giving the very best of their services, and the Overseers fully appreciate the manner of their doing. Average expense per week per inmate, $2.48.
Of the outside poor we would say that our expenses just about equalled our income.
The following are the expenses in detail:

SEVENTY-THIRD ANNUAL REPORT
Public Library.
To the Citizens of Randolph :
Pursuant to the provisions of Article 3 of the by-laws of the Turner Free Library, this, the thirty-second annual report, is submitted, showing the condition of the trust, consisting of the building, library and funds, together with the report of the Librarian and Treasurer, and so much of the reports submitted to the Trustees by the various committees, as seem of general interest.
The annual examination of the library was made by the Library Committee (consisting of Mr. John V. Beal, Mrs. Alice M. T. Beach, Mrs. Clara A. Wales, Mrs. Ellen J. T. Rountree and Mr. John E. Bradley), and the books, charts and fur- nishings were found in good condition. All books belonging to the library were accounted for by the Librarian.
The Committee on Building (consisting of Messrs. Henry A. Belcher, Winthrop B. Atherton, Patrick H. Mclaughlin, N. Irving Tolman and John E. McDonald), through their chairman, reports that the exterior of the building is in good repair, except the woodwork, which needs painting, but the portion used for library purposes is still in very bad condi- tion. The committee repeats its recommendation of last year, that an appropriation should be made by the town to reno- vate the library rooms, in order to conform to the conditions of the donor's deed. It is hoped that the town at its next annual meeting will make an appropriation therefor.
The Committee on Finance (consisting of Messrs. Asa P.

French, Frank C. Granger, William H. Leavitt, Herbert W. Pratt and Charles H. Thayer) reports as follows :
Randolph, Mass., January 1, 1909. To the Trustees of the Turner Free Library:
Your Committee on Finance submits the following report :
The committee, through its chairman, has audited the accounts of the Treasurer for the year 1908, and found them correct. All moneys received have been duly accounted for, and no money has been paid out except upon vouchers properly approved. The committee has also examined the securities representing the investments of the library funds, and has found them intact and as shown by the annexed schedule. No change has been made in the investments during the past financial year.
