TOWN OF RANDOLPH, MASS.

REPORT OF OVERSEERS OF THE POOR

The Overseers of the Poor submit herewith their report for the year ending December 31, 1920.

With reference to the poor out of Almshouse we would say that notwithstanding the large number of cases we were called upon to aid we have been able to keep within the appropriation, our report showing an unexpended balance of $873.62.

The Almshouse report also shows an unexpended balance despite the fact that we were obliged to make exten- sive repairs to the Almshouse barn.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael M. Sullivan, Warden and Matron at the Almshouse are now entering upon their fifteenth consecutive year in their respective positions, and we feel safe in saying that no other institution of this kind is better managed or kept in better condition. Quarterly inspections were made during the year and we found everything in excellent order, and the inmates well taken care of.

EIGHTY-FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT

REPORT OF TREE WARDEN

Randolph, Mass., January 21, 1921.

To the Voters of the Town of Randolph:

The town in the past has been noted for its beautiful shade trees, but, they are fast being destroyed by various causes. Gas, electric wires, and the various pests, all have a tendency to help destroy the same.

Each year trees are removed and no provisions are made to replace the same.

A small appropriation each year for the planting of shade and ornamental trees, would help replace the many trees removed every year.

We hope some action will be taken this year in regard to the planting of new shade trees.

A lot of work still remains to be done on your outlying streets, and a number of large trees are yet to be taken down.

Report submitted by

JOHN T. MOORE,

Tree Warden.

TOWN OF RANDOLPH, MASS.

REPORT OF THE LOCAL MOTH SUPERINTENDENT

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen, Randolph. Gentlemen :

The Gypsy Moth situation in this town remains about the same.

While effective work was done by spraying last year, the woodlands are so badly infested that while you clean up the residential and highways the moths lay the egg clusters again where they fly and deposit the eggo.

The weather so far this winter has been mild and very favorable for these egg clusters. Creosoting the eggo clusters has been carried on this winter and we expect to be able to cover the whole town.

This department has one power sprayer put in first class condition last year. It is recommended that the town procure a truck. More effective work can be done and more ground covered than by using a horse to draw the apparatus. For a small amount a suitable truck could be obtained and we would be able to save time and reach all the people and parts of the town.

A warning was sent out last year from the office of the State Forrester in regard to the destruction of the Brown Tail Moth which has made its appearance again and is more de- structive to the fruit trees than the Gypsy Moth. I destroyed a large number last spring in some sections of the town.

Respectfully submitted, JOHN T. MOORE, Local Moth Supt.

Warren Avenue to West Street was rebuilt.

The hill on Mill Street near North.

Now, with Main Street in good condition I recommend more work on side streets this year.

School Street regravelled.

Cottage Street is in bad condition.

Something should be done on North Street the coming year.

Canton Street also needs repairs, also Old and Pond Streets.

Centre Street also needs repairs.

In closing my report I would like to thank the Town Officials for the help they have given me the last year.

N. F. RANDALL,
