REPORT OF SELECTMEN
To the Citizens of the Town of Lynnfield :
The first meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on March 17th, 1924.
Organization F. C. Newhall, Chairman Wesley W. Munroe, Secretary Joseph F. Smith
The Yearly appointments were made at this meeting.
HIGHWAY WORK
The work on highways during the past year has been under the supervision of the Board of Selectmen with Mr. Ralph E. Cox acting as Superintendent of streets. Howard Ave., and Green street have been put in fine shape, also Main and Chestnut streets have been graded.
We hope to have an appropriation for Summer street also help from the State and County on Main street. The Square has been greatly improved by the curb and new flag pole.
NASH FUND
$195.00 was taken from the Nash Improvement Fund for pur- chasing and erecting a new flag pole in the Square opposite the Chem- ical House.
INSURANCE
The insurance on all Town property remains the same with an even amount falling due each year.
POLICE
The Police Department has been very active the past year espe- cially in Lynnfield Square. Traffic has been very heavy with not any prospects for a let up in the coming year.
We feel the time is not far distant before a permanent man will be needed in the Square.
CHARITIES
Requirements for charities were larger than last year, complete financial statements appear elsewhere in the report.
Respectfully submitted, Wesley W. Munroe,
Secretary.

REPORT OF CHIEF OF POLICE
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen :
Gentlemen :- I herewith submit my report of the Police Depart- ment of the Town of Lynnfield for the year ending December 31st, 1924.
There have been 42 arrests. 10 for gambling, 5 for driving un- der the influence of liquor and several for intoxication. 7 for breaking and entering. 8 for driving without a license. There have been 20 summonses served for various things.
This has been a busy year, there have been several accidents, several people injured, one lady was killed on the Turnpike in Auto accident.
Officers have been on duty Sundays and Holidays. The traffic officer has been on duty on Turnpike Saturday afternoons and Sun- days.
More money is really needed for the Police Department.
Respectfully submitted, Albert G. Tedford, Chief of Police.

REPORT OF FIRE DEPARTMENT
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I herewith respectfully submit a report of the Fire Department for the year ending Dec. 31st, 1924, a part of which I acted as Chief. The Department responded to 54 alarms, 4 house fires, 4 chimney fires, the rest being forest fires and false alarms.
The entire equipment of the Department was in very poor condi- tion when I accepted the position and the appropriation for the cur- rent year was cut $400.00 which left the Department without sufficient funds to even keep the apparatus in reasonable condition.
I believe the Department should have funds to maintain it in workable condition. The purpose of using the apparatus for all forest fires to my mind is not good judgment, and I hope it will not always have to care for forest fires.
Respectfully submitted, William W. Moxham,
Chief
REPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I herewith submit my annual report of the Highway Department.
The usual applications of tarvia and oil were applied to the streets. The holes were kept patched until freezing.
New work of grading was done on extending Green street. How- ard avenue was graded its entire length. Main street was graded for a short distance near Earles mill. Lowell Street was graded for a short distance near the four corners.
New work of grading should be done this next year on Lincoln Ave., Walnut Street anyway.
Bushes were cut and burnt on Main Street from the Wakefield line to Lowell street, on Summer Street to the South School.
Bushes that extended out into the highway were cut on Essex street, Lowell Street and Lincoln Ave.
No new equipment was bought outside of a snow plough and a few shovels.
I feel that a road roller with a scarifier attachment should be owned by the Town. It is almost impossible to get a roller with scar- ifier when such work should be done.
Respectfully submitted, Ralph E. Cox, Superintendent
REPORT OF MEMORIAL DAY COMMITTEE
To the Citizens of the Town of Lynnfield:
The appropriation for Memorial Day May 30th, 1924 was $150.00 allotted as follows: $90.00 at the Center and $60.00 at the South part of the Town. This year I had the co-operation of the American Le- gion Post 131, Palmer H. Hutchinson, Commander. We kept within our appropriation and put new flags on the graves twice instead of once with a small cost to the Legion.

REPORT OF CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS
To the Citizens of Lynnfield :
The cemeteries have had their usual general care, and we have endeavored to have them present a respectable appearance.
Th wall at the entrance of Forest Hill Cemetery, which was damaged by a heavily loaded truck, and also several places where the foundations had settled have been thoroughly repaired.
The wall along the southerly side of this Cemetery has also been relaid.
The provision made at the last Annual Town Meeting for the erection of a building in Forest Hill Cemetery for the storage of tools etc., has resulted in the building of a small stone structure, which gives a needed addition to the working equipment of the ceme- tery.
Respectfully submitted, Seth H. Russell Dexter F. Parker Arthur Bryant
Commissioners
REPORT OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
To the Citizens of the Town of Lynnfield :
The following reports of the Librarian and Assistant Librarian give the important facts as regards both libraries for the past year. The main library received a very good coat of paint which has helped the general appearance of the Common.
The gas-steam heating unit installed in the branch library has proved to be a very wise investment, and should more than pay for itself in savings in operation. At one time it seemed as though a similar investment would be necessary in the main library owing to the breaking down of the large stove, and estimates were obtained at that time. We were however finally able to repair so that the expense of making such changes has been postponed.
In the selection of new books special attention has been given to those for children, and we have in our hands at the present time an additional list submitted by Mr. Whittier, Superintendent of Schools, of books which will be of assistance to the teachers and pupils of our schools.
Respectfully submitted, George E. Lambert, Jr., Chairman
