1810 although his son Cowey (var- lous spellings) was the head of a household In Sidney Township, Del- aware Co., in that year. The census of Half Moon for 1800 Indicates that In addition to himself and his wife there were four maies and two fe- males in his household. He first settled in Norway and probably was the "Cabbot" Barnes who resided next after Com-, fort Barnes on the route of the enumerator at the csnsus of 1830. In 1850 he was .a member of the' household of his som Horace in Can- ajoharie and his occupation was given as "Toll gatherer." In the same census, his wife is listed in the household of her son-in-law, Ezra Crosby. Both were members of the household of Horace in 1860. Record- ed children of Cavit were Samuel, Lewis, Charles, Giles, Silas, Alfred and two daughters (names not giv- en) who married Ezra Crosby and James Seward, respectively. Accord- ing to census records, Horace was a tinsmith and hardware merchant and had retired by 1870 when he report- ed real estate to the value of $5,000 and personal property to the value of $900. Two daughters, Edna and Lilla A., are named, the latter living at home in 1880. HELMER, BRONSON

Do any descendants of James Hel- mer know whether or not he was born in Germany and his wife Cath- erine Serviss (Caty Service) in Hol- land daughter of Frfederick Serviss?

America and were they married in New York? Births of two of their children, Elizabeth born 1799 and Peter born 1801 are on record in Fort Plain church. They had a large family.

In 1806 they lived in Amsterdam township, Montgomery Co. owning a farm there near the town of Am- sterdam. One daughter, Hannah was born there April 12, 1806. Perhaps the others also: Lucinda, Jane, Eu- phemia and Mary. Of their sons Pet- er moved to Ind., Philip to Ohio, Jamse to Wisconsin and John staid in N. Y. Did he marry and leave descendants ?

In 1826 the family were living in Onondaga county where Hannah was married (1826) at Manlius, to James M. Bronson, son of Stephen Bron- son born 1768 in Vermont and Olive Sherman of New York. Was Stephen Bronson a son of Coi. Ozias Bron- son of Conn, born 1742, who had six sons? One of them Ozias, 2nd born 1764 moved to Amsterdam, N. Y. from Conn. in 1802. Would appre- ciate hearing from any descendants of Col. Ozias Bronson as to where birth records of his sons can be found, Stephen in particular. He was my great grandfather.

I recently obtained from E. and N. a copy of the Helmer Family gen- ealogy and would like very much to complete this Helmer-Bronson line. Would be glad to hear from any one who knows about forbears of either family.

BISHOP

Data on the parents of John Bishop. They lived in the early 1700's, prob- ably in New York State. The father of John, an emigrant weaver from France, changed his name from the French L'Evesque (not sure of speil- 'ing) to the English Bishop. His first name may have been Alencon, as the name Alanson which appears in later generations of the family is pronounced like the French Alencon (Alonson). Do not know a thing about his wife but imagine she was an American.

John Bishop, mentioned above, married Sarah Shapley and lived at New and Mit. Lebanon, Columbia Co., New York. They were married about 1750 to 1760. Had six children, John, Joab, Nehemiah, Asa born 1769, Sarah and 'Johanna. The first two sons settled in or near Leb- anon, Madison Co., early , in the 1800's. The daughters / joined the Shakers and are buried at Water-

TRUMBULL, STONE

An inquiry in a Boston Transcript of 1925 by H. W. J. reads: "Joel Trumbull of Conn. married Rhoda Stone about 1760 and had Elijah and Oliver and perhaps others."

In 1790 Oliver and Elijah Trimble are found to be heads of families in Stephentown, Albany Co. As Joel's family was 1-2-7 he certainly had other children. In the same neighbor- hood were found the Griffins (Grif- fiths) and the Croipsins (Cropsey) who were related by marriage.

In 1807 Oliver and Elizabeth or Betsey, his wife sold land in Caz- enovia to Samuel Griffith.

Oliver's wife was Elizabeth Grif- fith. The family record is as fol- lows:

Famlly Record of Oliver Trumbull Oliver Trumbuli born March 30,

1768.

Elizabeth Griffeth born July 28, 1769.

Married Dec. 18, 1788. Children born to them: Samuel W. Trumbull March 30, 1790.

Electra Trumbull March 29, 1792. Lyman Trumbull Dec. 17, 1795. Phila Trumbull Jan. 22, 1800. Nelson Trumbull March 6, 1802. Lois Trumbull Feb. 28, 1804.

Polly (Mary) Trumbull March 26, 1807.

I wish to note that two other sources make Lyman Trumbull's birth date 1798. These are the 1850 census and his gravestone and uary.

Oliver Trumbull spent his last years in Allegany Co., N. Y. He was living in 1840 and several of his children were in Western N. Y. Those I can not account for are Samuel W., Electra and Nelson. Is it possi- ble they had made homes and stay- ed behind in the East? I wish to know the parentage of Elizabeth Griffeth. I believe the wife of Jacob Crapsey was her sister Ann, that fact may help to determine it. I also am looking for proof that Joel's wife was Rhoda Stone and

same locality and later moved to Fenner where he died in 1847. Can some one identify Archibald Ehle as. the son of Peter (2) and give his dates and list of his children, etc. ? Peter (1) was born 12-23-1746, died 1-25-1829 in Sullivan, married Cath- erine (Cadrina) Nellis. Their child- ren were Mary, Elizabeth, Johannes, Anna B., Peter B. (or P.), Hendrick, George.

He was a corporal in Capt. Adam Lipe's company. Jos. H. Schaefer,

House Family of the Mohawk

By Melvin Rhodes Shaver Ransomville, N. Y. -

Chapter I

In order to find the progenitor of the House lines who live in or have, descended from the Mohawk Valley families, 'we must go back to the he was.

period of 1708-1709. Among the Paia- tinate refugees who came from Eng- land to America with the Rev. Josh- ua Kocherthal was one Christian Hauss. We find also in the church records of the Rev. Kocherthal the following: Married Sept. 27, 1710, Christian Hauss, widower, a carpen- ter of Alten-Staden, near Welzlar in obit-) the ducy of Solms, to Anna Cather- ine, widow of the late Johann Beck- er of Durnberg, near Deitz in the sovereignty of Schomberg.

It is supposed that Christian Hauss' first wife as well as Johann Becker died on the voyage over, or aoon after reaching these shores, as history of that, period tells us that sickness and privations took many lives, both on the voyage over and the .winter following. In the census of 1713-1714 it is shown that Chris- tian Hauss and wife Maria Catherina together with eight children are liv- ing at Neu-Heesburg on the Hudson

girls were named Maria' Margaretha and Elizabeth. There is also a male named Elias who is mentioned as foi- lows: "Harmon Van Slyke Patent, map of tract of land granted to Har- mon Van Slyke by letters patent dat- ed September 1, 1716, given to 32 persons of whom No. 23 was Elias House." Elias may have been one of the first six and Peter by the second marriage. We have no proof that Elias was a son of Christian, but from the early date of the above transaction we might safely say that

And if so, in what year they came to man, Amy (married Barringer), Han-

found, Stephen in particular. He was fenovia to Samuel Griffith. my great grandfather.

I recently obtained from E. and N. a copy of the Helmer Family gen- ealogy and would like very much to complete this Helmer-Bronson line. Would be glad to hear from any one who knows about forbears of either family.

Electra Trumbull March 29, 1792. Lyman Trumbull Dec. 17, 1795. Phila Trumbull Jan. 22, 1800. Nelson Trumbull March 6, 1802. Lois Trumbull Feb. 28, 1804. Polly (Mary) Trumbull March 26, 1807.

I wish to note that two other sources make Lyman Trumbull's birth date 1798. These are the 1850 census and his, gravestone and obit -; the ducy of Solms, to Anna Cather-

uary.

Oliver Trumbull spent his last years in Allegany Co.,/N. Y. He was living in 1840 and several of his children were in Western N. Y. Those I can not account for are Samuel W., Electra and Nelson. Is it possi- ble they had made homes and stay- ed behind in the East? I wish to know the parentage of Elizabeth Griffeth. I. believe the wife of Jacob Crapsey was her sister Ann, that fact may help to determine it. '
