WEBBS OF LONG ISLAND
A recent inquirer of the Enterprise and News asks about the Webb fam- ily. In 1640 the Webbs were among the first thirteen families to settie the east end of Long Island. They came out of New England and pur- chased the land of the Montauk In- dians. Among the descendants was the iate George Hoiils Kennahan, mayor of Great Neck, L. I. His fath- er, John published the Long Island Farmer and the son succeeded him in the business.

House Family of the Mohawk
By Melvin J'thedes' Shaver Ransomvilia, N. Y. Chapter I
Descendants of Christian Hauss We believe from our studies that the above George and Conrad both took part in the Revolutionary War. Conrad and his wife Engeiga were
period made prisoners of war.
In Governor Clinton's papers refer- ence is made to the capture of John House by Chief Joseph Brant and his subsequent release and the service he did the colonies at that time.
The House family was very large, and that it was very patriotic is shown by the fact that in the Revo- lutionary records we find the name mentioned over sixty times, many: re-eniisted several times as emergen- cy presented itseif and their services were needed.
The following is a list of the mem-' bers of the House family who parti -- cipated in the American' Revolution: TRYON COUNTY' MILITIA First Regiment

WHIPPLE
Want data of Thomas (3) Whip- ple (Samuel 2, Capt. John 1), born 1 (Providence ?) about 1671; married (Providence ?) about 1694 Abigail (3) Jenckes, (Joseph 2-1), of Provi- dence. Want especially listing of their children, which apparently has never been printed. Will of Samuel (2) Whipple of Providence made March 9, 1710, proved April 3, 1711,
names children, Samuel, Thomas
(above), Abigall and Hope; wife Mary; and grandsons, Noah, Enoch, and Daniel. According to at least one genealogist these grandsons, No- ah, Enoch and Daniel, were sons of Thomas (3) Whipple. They were in fact ohildren of Noah (3) Whipple (Samuel 2, Capt. John 1), unnamed )in his father's will and perhaps de- ceased. The grandson, Noah (4) Whipple was father of Commodore Abraham Whipple of Cranston, R. I. and Marietto, Ohio. 'Am trying to prove that Thomas (3) Whipple was father of Thomas Whipple (who married Mary Gary), Abraham Whipple (who married Mary Jones) and Nathan Whipple (who married Hannah?) all of Enfield and Somers, Conn., whose parentage has never been solved.
2. Is. the forename Increase Hen- ry distinctive of some Conn. family of the Somers-Enfleld area ? It was used for three generations in & V/hip- ple family, first appearing in that of Luther Whipple, born Sommers, March 7, 1743 (son of forerning Abraham and Mary (Jones) Whip- ple) ; married probably Somers about 1768, wife's name unknown. The name Increase Henry ,apparently is definite clue to parentage of this unknown wife of foregoing Luther Whipple yho lived Somers and Gro- ton Conn., and Roxbury, Delaware Co., New York.

House Family of the Mohawk
By Melvin Rhodes ' Shaver. Ransomville, N. "Y. Chapter.I
Descendants of Christian Hauss We belleve from our studies that the above George and Conrad both took part in the Revolutionary War. Conrad and his wife Engelga were parents of a large family and at the time of his death were living near Schuyler Lake. He had several sons and many took part in the warl. Three are prominentiy mentioned as, Ilving on the south side of the Mo- hawk River in the town of Canajo- harle and vicinity after the war,
namely, Johnathan, Nicholas and George. Johnathan iived at Indian Castle during the war. Besides the three mentioned above there was one brother Harmonas who was a Tory. We have good reason to believe that Capt. Christian House was also brother of those mentioned above.
Johnathan, Nicholas and George were all members of Capt. Jost Dy- gert's' company in Col. Clyde's regi- ment of 1st Canajoharie Militia. Whether all were present at the Bat- tle of Oriskany we do not know, but we do know, that Johnathan was present at that battle and assisted in placing General Herkimer on the sad- die under the beech tree after the | General was mortaliy wounded, and from which position he directed the battle. We have affidavit that he made that claim. It has always been tradition In our family and our gen- ealogist says there is no doubt of the truth of his claim," as history shows that John House was a private in the company of Jost Dygert, who was in command of General Nicholas Herki- mer's front guard in the battie of Orsikany and would have been in a position to be near the General when he fell. The military service of John House has been accepted by the Daughters of the American Revolu- tlon and he believes that ail members} of Capt. Jost Dygert's company are entitled to have their names placed upon the Orlskany monument.
History also shows that Johnathan, Nicholas and George were all at some
