ANSWER TO SOULE QUERY
Your query concerning the Soule family appearing in the genealogy and history section of the St. Johns- ville Enterprise and News for July 19, 1945 was of especial interest to me since Latten and Lydia (Leech) Soule were my great great grandpar- ents.
My grandfather, the late Judge Charles Edward Soule of Grand Haven, Michigan, mentlons and de- scribes his Uncle Nathan In his man- uscript auto-blography, a copy of which I have. That document, unfor- tunately for your purpose, doesn't give any added data concerning Na- than's wife Christiana, neither do the autoblographles of members of con- gress which I have searched at the Library of Congress in Washington. You undoubtedly know, of course, that Honorable Nathan Soule served one term (1831-32) in Congress. .
Ridolon's "Soule", Sowle and Soul- is History" states (page 781, volume 11) that Christiana, the wife of Hon- orable Nathan Soule died April 2, Atlanta, Ga." 1853, aged 61-9-10 which I would in- BASTOW terpret to mean that her age at death was 61, years, 9 months and 10 days and would place her birth on or about 23 May 1791. Since the fam- ily lived in or around the town of Clay in Onondaga county about the time of her death, you may be able to locate her tombstone and find thereon a clue to her maiden name. Another lead would be the 1850 cen- sus which gives the full names of the small towns all members of each family enum- erated and Is the first census to do so.
as Cobles Kelly; Fishcibbins-Fitz- simmons and Arclbil -. Archibald.
There actually, was a Delia Herki- mer, . married 1750 about. She mar- rled Col. Peter Bellinger.
A Jacob Schuyler went from Dan- ube to live in Chittenango. Schuy- lers and Herkimers Intermarried, lived around Schuyler Lake, Rich- field Springs, N. Y. Hon Yost Schuy- ler who frightened off St. Leger's army lived at Schuyler Lake too, De- scendants of George, Henry and Tim- othy Herkimer lived there also. #
Miss Spurling should give more dates and names of baptismal spon- sors for the children of Delia and Jacob and the places where they liv- ed.
It looks to me as if this Delia were named after her aunt, Delia (Herki- mer) Bellinger.
Back numbers of the Enterprise and News mentioned .can probably be, obtained /by Miss Spurling. . Lt. Com. L. F. Bellinger, Ret, 1005 Springdale Road,
Information regarding the Bas- tow family that came to the Utica area from Oldham, England about
1840. Where was Nancy (Nanny)
Bastow buried ? She died enroute
from NYC to Utica at the time they came from England. Burial place of her husband, Jerry Bastow also de7 sired. Nancy was buried in one of
around Utica, and Jerry supposedly in the same place. Probably Whitesboro or New Hart- ford. Their children were Samuel, who went to Australia or_ India, James who came to this country
Honorable Nathan and Christiana Soule had 12 children born between '1808 and 1827, mamy of them born at but returned to England after a few Fort Plain in Montgomery county. years, Thomas, Henry, Jerry and a daughter, Nancy. The name was originally spelled Basto, without the w. I would like to correspond with anyone interested in this family. One of those children, Andrew Jack- son Soule (1818-1880) was at, one time sheriff of Onondaga county but I don't know what happened to the ‹ Mrs. George E. Bastow, rest of them or thelr descendants ex- cept for brief entries in Ridlon's 44 Birnie Road, Longmeadow, Mass. book. I have suspected that the name Soule or Soules appearing from time to time in the news columns of the WILLIAMS, ROCKWOOD Enterprise and News may represent descendants of this branch of the family.
I shall also be glad to hear more of your Interest in the Soule fam- ily.

ANSWER TO .HERKIMER- SCHUYLER QUERY
Some time this spring Fannie S. Spurling of Delavan, Wisc. request- ed the parents of Delilah Herkimer and Jacob Schuyler 1754-1825, . her husband. It took me 11/2 days search- ing through my files without defl- nite results. The Enterprise and News 13 August 1936 gives an arti- . cle on Schuylers by Rev. W. N. P. Dailey
Enterprise and News 2 April 1933 gives George Herklmer's Family Bi- ble entries, from A. L. Marshall, a descendant of 317 N. Rutland street, Watertown, N. Y.
There is a book in many librarles. "Herkimers and Schuylers" by Phoe- be Cowan which may have the data desired. .
Pay heed to one pointer-her name -was NOT Delilah. It was Delia. That error has been made in other cases eg. in the Lt. Henry Zimmerman family. The old Germans gave the name as a three syllabled word "Dee- lee-ah" or "Dee-ly" for short. The illiterate clerks and preachers and teachers from New England gave was too often followed by the family .. They did no worse than the Mohawk Dutch preachers In spelling surnames of husbands of the girls they pro- nounced the marriage ceremony over

ANSWER TO PETRIE QUESTION | 1887. Their children were Sarah,
Many times I have noted inquirles from Joseph Schaefer, secretary Sy- racuse Chapter SAR. Last spring he asked about Adam BellInger,' 1740- 1824, and wife Maria E. Petrie, 1740- 1808. He is given as No. 68 in my Pre-Revolutionary War Bellinger gerles in the Enterprise and News which was sent to the Syracuse Li- brary.
No.,68 Adam was in 1763 Pvt., Capt. Jacob. Klock's Co., Colonial Series, page 1794. State Library, Al- bany and (?) Syracuse.
He was at Oriskany, a Lt. under Col Klock. See Book of Names page 155 (MacWethy).
His . son Adam No. 432 had Rev. War pension No. W23583.
... His grandson, son of No. 432 had War of 1812 pension WC18642.
Hls grandson, son of No. 435 Pet- er, had War of 1812 pension WC31412 which has the unusual fea- ture of a "descriptive list" among the papers. See No. 1592.
