The Kellam Hospital is without parallel in the cure of Cancers, Tumors and Chronic Sores, and we want every man and woman in the United States to know that we have cured without the use of the knife, X-ray, radium or acids over 90 per cent. of the many hundreds of sufferers treated during the past 18 years.

Roanoke is situated in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia, between the Blue Ridge and the Alleghany Mountains, the Roanoke river flow- ing along its southern border. It is 1,000 feet above sea level.
Its. water supply is unsurpassed by that of any city of like size in the country and is furnished by the famous Crystal Spring, lo- cated at the base of Mill Mountain, a short distance from the city, supplying five millions of gallons per day. A freestone water adapted to manufacturing purposes, is also piped from Bedford county
Roanoke's ideal location, high altitude, fine sanitation and unexcelled water supply, com- bine to make the city a most healthful place for residence.
There has been a marked increase in the growth of manufacturing industries in the city. Including the force at work at the Roanoke Machine Works, where a portion of the equip- ment of the Norfolk and Western Railway Company is built, and where heavy repairs to engines and cars are made, it is safe to estimate that fully 4,000 men are employed by the various manufacturing enterprises of the city. In addition to this about 700 clerks and officials are employed in the general offices of the Railway Company. The payrolls of the machine works and railway offices aggregate $150,000 per month.
Roanoke is steadily increasing in importance as a distributing point for all classes of mer- chandise and manufactured articles. Situated at the gateway of Southwest Virginia, in close proximity to and in direct communication with the Virginia and West Virginia coal fields, and being furthermore a junction point, which assures especially low freight rates, Roanoke's wholesale merchants are afforded exceptional advantages in easily reaching their trade, and being able to compete with houses located in the larger trade centers of the East and North.
The banks of the city are under intelligent and conservative management, and their state- ments show them all to be in flourishing con- (lition.
In 1881. Roanoke was a village with less than 600 inhabitants, having perhaps 125 buildings. In 1884, it had reached a popu- lation of about 5,000, and was chartered as a

city. The United States census of 1890 gave it 16,159; that of 1900, 21,495.
Roanoke is in a position to offer special indncements to manufacturing plants, as it is on the line of one of the greatest railway sys- tems in the country, and, being a junction point, special freight rates can be secured. The building of the Virginian Railway, from the coal fields to the seaboard, will afford addi- tional railway facilities.
