The judicial seat of Chase county, is a progressive, incorporated city, located on the banks of the Cot- tonwood river, a little to the northeast of the center of the county, on the A, F & S Fe Ry, 81 miles from Topeka and 133 from Atchison. It is the trad- ing point for a fine farming and graz- ing section and limestone and material for brick making are found in the im- mediate vicinity. The city has 2 banks; a $40,000 court house, graded public schools, the county high school, a flour mill, a street railway and 2 weekly newspapers, the Chase County Leader and the Courant and Reveille. It is the center of a rich stock raising and farming district, has Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Methodist (North and South) and Presbyterian churches, educational ad- vantages of the highest order, electric light plant and water works owned by the city, a public library, opera house,
