FREDONIA. Population, 3,500. The Judicial seat of Wilson county is an in-
corporated city located on the A., T. & S. Fe, the M. P. and St. L. & S. F. R. Rs. and on Fall river, 90 miles e. of Wichita and 150 from Kansas City. It dates its settlement from 1869, and is surrounded by an agricultural and stock raising, as well as rich oil and. gas district. The city has water works, fire and police departments, and is lighted with natural gas, of which there is an abundant supply, furnished for manufacturing purposes as low as three cents per one thousand cubic feet. It has 5 churches, 3 public schools, an opera house, 3 banks, the largest window glass plant in the en- tire west, 2 large brick plants, a lin- seed oil mill, an ice and cold storage plant, cement works, 2 independent gas plants, a foundry and machine shop, brick and tile works, iron works, flour and feed mill, etc. Two newspa- pers, the Herald and the Wilson Coun- ty Citizen, are published and there is one of the best equipped bank printing offices in the state.
