DIVISION. . A country postoffice in Lane county, 14 miles s. of Dighton, the judicial seat, banking and ship- ping point. Mail, tri-weekly. Robert Fryback, postmaster,
DODGE CITY. Population, 3,800. The judicial seat of Ford county, is located on the Arkansas river and on the A., T. & S. Fe and the C., R. I. & P. Rys. (depots 1 mile apart), 302 miles from Topeka and 369 from Kansas City. Its altitude is 2,480 feet. The uplands in the vicinity produce large crops of wheat, oats, barley, Kafir-corn, etc. The rolling lands are covered with buffalo grass, the most nutritious na- tive pasture grass known to stock- men. The city is lighted by electric- ity, has water works and fire depart- ment, and its natural drainage and sewerage system is unsurpassed. Sta- tistics show it to be one of the most healthful cities in the State. There are numerous churches, good public schools, Soule College (Methodist Episcopal), an opera hall, 3 banks, a flouring mill, machine shop, ice plant and 2 weekly newspapers, the Globe- Republican and the Journal-Democrat.
