GARNETT. Population, 2,150. The judicial ceat of Anderson county, is a prosperous, incorporated city located on the A., T. & S. Fe and M. P. Rys. (depots 2 blocks apart), 50 miles n. w. of Fort Scott and 82 s. w. of Kansas City. It is surrounded by a thickly settled and rich farming district for which it is the receiving and istri-


buting point. Eleven church edifices represent the leading religious de- nominations and the public schools are admirably managed, with abund- ant accommodations for the entire school population.
