SCHENCK, JOHN CORNELL-Lawyer, 209 Bar- bey street, Brooklyn. Born in Flatbush, N. Y., Feb. 27, 1837. (Son of Isaac C. and Catharine [Meserole] Schenck.) Educated at Mount Washington Collegiate Institute and Columbia College Law School, under Prof. Dwight, ('60.) (Married Josephine M. Petty, and has one daughter, Elizabeth Meserole Schenck.) Chairman Citizens' Association of the town of New Lots, for the relief of volunteers, drafted men and their families, 1861-5; served as justice of the peace in Kings County: as town clerk of New Lots, and as Associate Justice of the Court of Sessions in Kings County. Prepared and attended to enactment of the charter of the East New York Savings Bank in 1868, and had it opened for business May 1, 1869; was in charge of general management of the bank, its legal adviser and a member of the board of trustees until 1884, when he resigned. Was interested in the forma- tion of the Union Gas Light Co. of the town of New Lots, and numerous other corporations. Member Hol- land Society and Masonic Veterans.

SCHENCKER, PETER AUGUST-Organist and Composer, 235 East 52d street, New York City. Born in Germany, Aug. 26, 1850. Studied harmony in New York City and composition at Leipzig Conservatory. (Married.) Organist and musical director in the West Presbyterian Church, New York City, since 1872. Has composed considerable church music. Member New York Manuscript Society.
