Educated at Franklin and Princeton Universi- ties. Ordained June 4, 1895, in Indianapolis. Was as- sistant pastor-to Dr. Edward B. Coe, of the Fifth Ave- nue Collegiate Church in 1895, and in 1898 became as- sistant to Dr. David J. Burrell of the Marble Collegi- ate Church. During the Spanish-American War was chaplain of the 171st provisional regiment, New York; detailed to special work at Montauk in the hospital; while there conducted the burial services of General 'Vheeler's son. On the return of the 71st regiment


from the front, and the mustering out of the 171st, was detailed as acting chaplain of the 71st, and led all of the burial services. Member Princeton Club.


BRADY, ANTHONY NICHOLAS-Financier, 54 Wall street, New York City; residence Albany. Born in Lille, France, Aug. 22, 1843. Came with his parents to Troy when quite young. Did not attend school after he was thirteen. (Married Marcia A. Myers.) Opened a tea store in Albany in 1854; was successful, and kept opening up new ones till he had monopolized the tea trade in Albany and Troy; then turned his attention to granite, and soon became the owner of large quar- ries; formed a plan for the purchase and consolidation of the Albany and Troy gas plants, which, with the aid of ex-Governor Flower and Mr. E. C. Benedict, he car- ried out successfully; repeated the operation with like success in Chicago; bought up all the street car lines in Albany and Troy, and equipped them with electric- ity; rebuilt the "Huckleberry" railway system in New York City: after he had completed his contract could not get his pay and kept the road; became acquaint- ed with William C. Whitney and other railroad mag- nates and planned the consolidation of all the New York City surface lines; promoted similar combina- tions in Washington, Philadelphia and other cities. Vice-president and director People's Gas Light and Coke Co. of Chicago, and Southern Boulevard R. R Co .; director Brooklyn Queens County and Suburban R. R. Co., Brooklyn Rapid Transit Co., and Equitable Gas Light Co. Member Manhattan and Democratic Clubs, and Down Town Association, all of New York City.
